Ive been thinking bout setting up my new hull with a surface drive mud motor. Who here has used them enough to have a solid opinion on them.. I was curious how fast it could push a 2072 and if they are actually effective in shallow water. Ive used outboards on all my other rigs but havnt run a mud motor before. any advice would help. thanks guys

With a 2072 you will have to have duals or not go over 8mph. With stock duals on my 2072 I can run 35 deep water 38 skinny and still run about 25mph with up to 3000lb. Duals are the cats ass but, $$$$ and you can buy a boat that will run dry land for the same price. For me duals are my best option for hulling weight and being able to fish in 4-8 inches of water with no troller all night long on 2 gallons of gas .

you will be realy sick with a single mud motor moded out and pushing that kind of weight. It will probably turn dangerous also

My modded 36 on my 1856 with 3 guys and a load of fish is just enough to get on plane. It's not terriable thought I always try to use the closest launch to where i'm fishing. It will go just about anywhere though just doesn't like sand or dry land. I use to avoid logs and shallow flats with my outboard now i just run stuff over.

18/60 is about as big as you want to go on a well modded mud motor. Im building am 18/58 right now with 24" sides and 6' front deck no boxes and completly open floor plan. This to allow for the added weight of the fish. On a mud boat every pound counts when it comes to total weight.

Running the first HD45 mag muddy buddy built, 18/60 Fischer hull it'll run 27-30 depending on elevation and deep/skinny water. 900lbs of fish it'll run 22-25ish, the trick to getting them on plane with weight is skinny water 8-12inch. Never been able to get on plane with any more weight then 900. Dual Rig would be sweet
