I have a muzzy reel that is working fine, except for it seems like it is free spooling. It will hold the weight of the arrow, but when you get a fish on you have to keep a hold of the handle or it will pull line like the button is pushed. I have taken the reel apart and it doesnt seem like any parts are broken. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Sorny

ya, your line is slipping on the spool. Pull all the line off until you get to where it is tied on, put a half hitch in your line over where it is tied and pull it tight. If it still does it, you need to re-tie to the spool to where it doesnt slip.

Had the same problem with mine it worked fine for a couple weeks then started slipping out. Mine was the line slipping. Not sure why it started but the only way I could get it to stop was put a wrap of black tape around the shaft then tie the line to it. If nothing else PM markland. I'm sure he can tell you how to fix it

i usually just tie my line on and wrap a few times to get it to reel. when mine started this same thing i tied it on like the directions that come with the reel says to. worked like a charm. i tied a loop in one end of the line then ran the other end of the line through the loop i tied. after pulling all the line through the loop i then put the new loop that was made by doing this over the pick up pin cap and pulled tight. problem solved. your line over time will loosen up so to speak and make voids in the line that will allow the line to slip into when under pressure causing the problem you are describing. good luck with a fix. if all else fails im sure mr mark land can help you out. great guy to deal with and great support on these reels. thanks for rebuilding mine mark!

Na.. if the line is comming out and the reel is turning backwards your A/R Friction spring is gone... I would replace it (38) as well as the Cushion Coil (42).... Very common problems and a very easy cheap fix.. :tu:
