I own 4 muzzy XD's, the last two I purchased have been giving me problems. The first one Mark from Muzzy was going to send me parts. Well that never happened and thanks to Backwoods my parts arrived promptly. The last 2 reels lasted one night before pooping out. The first reel the rotor stripped out fighting a big common during a tourney, lost the fish. The second reel on it's first night out is having free spin issues. The handle will spin backwards and not stop after shooting a fish. Instead of activating the drag the handle spins backwards. The older closed-face reels I've owned had a switch for that option. I don't believe the XD has one, I've looked!
Am I missing something?

Any help would be appreciated.

for a XD to free spin 2 things has to happen. first take the rear hood off.

this spring works with wrap tension. if it gets up on this plastic rib, if the tail gets up on here it will not wrap tension around the main. the tail should be layed beside the plastic rib.

second this small gear brake on the on the main can on occasion stand up and not lay down. check to see when you reel that this brake is laying down and biting every tooth.if not spray some light Teflon spray and check the small spring is in place that holds tension to it.

I considered that Brady but im not sure most people know what each problem is. all they know is "it sounds weird when I reel" or " when I reel the drag don't work" not sure doing multiple clips would be the best. of course I have no problem talking for 5 min about the smallest things. guess your right we all have ADD and about a 2min attention span.

-how to take apart the XD.
-removing the roto assembly.
-pick-up pin repair and adjustment.
-installing line the proper way.
-why isn't you drag working?
-replacing a stripped main gear.
-replacing a main shaft.
-dual pick-up pins.
-slotting the roto housing.
-replace/ tighten handle assembly.
-mounting a XD on a reel seat.
-shortening a reel seat for small hands.
-using a rod with a XD.

good grief I had no idea I could come up with that many.

I do want to hear from you guys when I do "how to's" just cause I say something in a video its not necessarily "the gospel" it just means its what works for me. If you search anything "bowfishing" on youtube you get Sam Wood everytime. all of witch is outdated and there is a ton of stuff on his that I don't fully agree with. Many of the things ive learned have been done the hard way. I wish to educate and promote good fishing practices, and explain the uses of specialized gear. Basically to keep everyone from downtime, something we all fear. Fixing stuff is easy if you understand how. If I don't know or understand something I go straight to google or youtube, witch currently has very little on our sport. I really want to do more to help all the entry level bowfisherman. Especially the ones who are like I was; who have no one to show them how. anyone can contact me whiteriverrambo@Hotmail.com or Google search: "Dustin Apple Bowfishing" im just getting into the How To's but there is more to come soon.

....lol....that's what I'm saying it would be a 45 minute video....lol...anything is better then nothing, you could say "go look at the video around the 7:34 minute mark"

This is a great idea... your a super helpful dude... I may have to take back about 10% of the crap I said about you...:drunk:

Drag weight setting would smart. I was thinking using a spring scale to set drag weight. Finding the right balance between goofing up the line on the spool and just too light.
I use the one arm pull scale.... I hold the bow with one arm and pull the line till it comes out with good resistance but not so tight I cant pull any out. works great.

fantastic idea Dustin...right off the top of my bald head I would show how to spool line on using a barrel swivel to remove the factory twist line sometimes comes with and the Throughthegills half hitch method for securing the line to the spool

Great idea, but might be cool to take a "shot" or drink a beer between each segment, might get pretty interesting by "mounting an XD on a reel seat" :drunk:

Rambo I made a little video on how to tie to the back but it won't post on here I just need to send it to you so you can do it and post it and I'm interested in the rebuild thread for muzzys also.
