Hey,
I am getting a 10' Flatbottem Jon Boat. I am payin' $300 for the boat, trolling motor, and fish finder... I plan on tearing out seats putting a carpeted floor in and a deck on the front. I am getting 8 Halogen lights... 2 in front... 2 on left... 2 on right... 2 facin back into the boat from the deck... I am getting a 800 watt/ 900 max watt genny from Harbor Freight... That will automatically keep the 2 batteries charged and supply power to and electrical outlet for a grill when needed... Any suggestions will help... Thank you for your time and I appriciate your help!:applause:

Every bit of extra flotation will help, it seems to me like you are asking an awful lot out of a 10' Jon Boat with the amount of stuff you are wanting to install.

The one thing about your setup that has the numbers not making sense. Those lights you are getting ar 55watt bulbs and draw a total of 440 watts or approx. 37 Volt Amps. That being said, you what kind of a battery charger are you looking at putting on the generator? I would be more worried about the battery charger being able to keep up with the current draw of lights you are installing.

How many batteries are you planning on installing in your boat?

The chargers you listed put out 1.5amps, your lights draw 37amps running all 8 or 27 1/2amps running 6. That means for 1 minute your lights run, it will take the charger almost 25 minutes or a little over 18 minutes respectively, to put that much amperage back into the battery.

I've seen a lot of jon boats in the 12ft and some in the 14ft range for $300 on craigslist in my area. I also would be real leery about using a 10ft jon for what you want. If you don't have to be committed to that 10ft jon I'd keep your eyes open for something a little bigger.

I have a 10 foot jon boat that I take up creeks for limb lines and getting to hard-to-get-to deer hunting areas. You can put two of us guys (190-210 pounds), 2 backpacks, and 2 bows in that thing and you are way over the weight limit......not to mention how tippy the thing feels. This past deer season we were going down the creek and almost flipped it several times just by running up on stumps with a 40lb troller. You would be better off with a 2 man bass buggy (the pontoon looking plastic boats). The first year I started using a boat this got us by. We had no chairs in it.....Just two of us with 2 bows, a battery, a trolling motor, and a spotlight. Needless to say, I bought a 16 foot carolina skiff the next year. If you really look around, you can find a better suited boat for not much more than you will purchase that jon boat. My first boat would have been much better. It was a 16 foot kingfisher 70's model bassboat. Bought it with a 25 hp outboard that ran great for 600 bucks. Just look around is all I'm saying before you waste your money on such an incapable rig.

I am sure that most of us can appreciate your situation. We all started off somewhere, but at some point you have to think about what price do you put on safety? A 10' boat is a good starting point, but when you start adding on the stuff for bowfishing I think you will find you are over your safe weight limit.

Whatever route you decide to go, just remember you can never put a price on safety.

Its deff. gonna help. These fellers aint tryin to discourage a guy, just dont want to see a kid drown. I have fished off a boat with 12v halos before and they do work. He only had two lights and a battery for each one.
Good luck with the rig brother and be carfull out there
