Hey,
I am getting a 10' Flatbottem Jon Boat. I am payin' $300 for the boat, trolling motor, and fish finder... I plan on tearing out seats putting a carpeted floor in and a deck on the front. I am getting 8 Halogen lights... 2 in front... 2 on left... 2 on right... 2 facin back into the boat from the deck... I am getting a 800 watt/ 900 max watt genny from Harbor Freight... That will automatically keep the 2 batteries charged and supply power to and electrical outlet for a grill when needed... Any suggestions will help... Thank you for your time and I appriciate your help!:applause:

Just keep safety in mind, if youve got a few places that you and a buddy can drop her in and troll around for a while, in a small cove or something than do what ya can. You can make it work to get you started. To be honest, i would just fish during the day or a little at night with a spot light. Either way just be safe, wear your lifejacket, and be smart.

my buddy has a 10footer that we shoot off of and we shoot 2 and sometimes have a third just sittin in the middle hanging out not shootin also a 3250watt genny and 6 500watt halogens 2 batteries a troller and an outboard. but with that being said we are extremely over the weight limit the front of the boat with 3 people in it all weighin 140 roughly a piece we probably sit 3 inches out of the water and it is pretty wobbly so if your serious learn how to balance real quick cause if youre out trollin and then all of a sudden your buddy steerin decides to throw it in reverse to chase a fish he saw and you arent prepared and havent gotten good at balancing yet then you will be kissin the water real quick. another thing i would like to add is we have only takin this boat with all the equipment on it on creeks that are max 75 ft across in some areas with real slow currents. with all that said it can be done dangerous but yes it can be done also my buddy with this boat is lookin for a 16ft right now so needless to say he didnt realize how much a 10 footer will actually keep you from goin places because it is so small wobbly and dangerous

Up until last year I shot out of a 1232. I have had 3 in it but 2 was usually interesting enough. It works just keep your weightdown as much as possible and stay low. We had a 5 hp outboard gas tank, trolling motor, 2 batterys one for troller and one for lights, two oars, small flush front deck, usually a bucket for lifejackets gaff extra arrows ect. with 2 guys we were overweight leaving the boat launch and add fish into the equation!! but that tiny boat goes a lot of places others cant but not fast. be careful and have fun!!! oh and ditch the stinky carpet idea! Here is a crappy pic of what I had or lights 4-1 million candle power folding coleman spotlights hooked up to a battery. These would last 6-7 hours and penetrated water well. but didnt cover much area.

Ok... I had originally posted this thread talking bout a 10' Jon Boat... Then I found a 14' Jon Boat, but it turns out the guy didn't remove the post on Craigslist so I again went looking... I have made my final decision and I am getting a 12' Jon Boat next week... Will post pics. as soon as I get it... Sorry for the confusion!

I have 2 of the exact same lights set up on a 12volt system, the two lights will run about 8 hours on a deep cycle battery and throw pretty good light. The problem is though, they don't have replaceable bulbs, the bulbs are wired straight in so if you blow a bulb (I had one go out after about 20 hours) you have to replace the whole light. You might want to spend a few extra bucks to get lights that you can replace the bulbs in.

I would def look into the mag light and maybe a little biger genny and 4 or 6 cheap halos from walmart or something.....al u would really need is something small pointing in the boat for light...and if its not that grat of a steal wait and look for a 14 or 16ft...they r ways popping up...some with trollers and small engine for 500 or so

My buddy and I have a Jon boat that measures in at just under 12 feet, we put a deck in it, wired it, and we put boat carpet in it as well. the carpet clears out really well and i'm happy we did it. The problem you're going to have is that its going to be extremely tippy and if you're like us and you put 3 or 4 people on in, and everyone leans to far to the one side, you better have a bilge pump because your taking on water and its probably going to tip. the generator on that scares me because if you dump that in a deep hole, good luck getting that back. we have a trolling motor motor hooked up on teh front, no seats yet we just stand, and we have 2 three million candle power lights that we use to spot the fish. If you're in a place that has a lot of bends, rapids and or fast water, get a pole to steer the back end. they are a sh@* ton of fun, but you gotta get used to shifting your weight to stabalize the boat, its a balancing act. If your interested, I can show you pictures of our setup, and give you a couple suggestions of little 10ft sucker spearing boats we've seen.
