Well I think we finished with a bang getting this one. This was probably my last trip before I start preparing to go overseas for a few years. I'm about to re-post my boat, truck etc. on here for sale. I took my dad, my best friend and a friend of my dads fishing last weekend. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot to shoot at, but there were a few big ones lurking about. We got to the fishing hole late, but I wanted to go out for a few hours that night so we did. It didn't take long before this monster rolled quite a ways away from the boat. She got stuck and ran with one arrow for what seemed like forever, wrapping around the troller 3 times, running back and forth under the boat, etc. We were patient and let her run, never pulling very hard and just letting her pull us around. After almost an hour we got her up close enough for a second arrow. We stuck her again and she ran deep again full force, but not for quite as long this time. We finally got her around and put a third shot in her and after a short fight she gave up. All three shots were in the tail so when I got her up beside the boat, I couldn't gaff her. My gaff got destroyed trying to get it in her and I couldn't even see her head since she was upside down. We ended up having to shoot her two more times to get her head up close enough so I could gaff the soft spot and we finally got her in the boat. We were all totally exhausted. I put the tape on her but it only went to 6 foot, so I waited until we got out later that night and got a better tape out of my truck and she measured 7 feet 3 inches on the nose. I was surprised because I didn't think she would go over 7, but she did. I didn't have a way to weigh her though, but I'd guess an easy 200 pounds. She was fat and had recently eaten because she was throwing up huge buffalo scales. I sure wish I could have had a way to hang her up, but she was too heavy for the stuff I have to hang 'em with. Greatest thing about it all is, my dad has gone bowfishing with me several times over the past two decades but would never shoot. The first shot at any fish in his life was this one, and he hit it! I told him he's ruined now. Anyways, I'll post a few of the more decent pics we got with a phone that night.
