I am picking up my first bowfishing boat next week and I'd like to pick up a couple bows in the meantime so I can get straight to business when I pick the boat up.

I have been looking at just running to Academy and picking up a couple PSE Discoveries and calling it done, but I keep seeing everyone on here swearing by the Oneida. I live in south Louisiana and will always be fishing in shallow water so I'm not sure I need a 60-70# draw to get things done. Can anyone chime in here and give me a little guidance?

Here's a couple Onenidas I've been looking at but I have no idea if they're good deals or not...

Don't get an Oneida for the gal. They are considerable heavier and longer than the PSE's and AMS's are. I'm shooting #40 out of my fish hawk and sucker punch and they have plenty enough punch for down here.

You will most likely be happier with a discovery or AMS bow if you are just starting out, but everyone has their favorite bows. I tried an Oneida and it just wasn't for me, like said earlier they ARE heavier than most bows you will use. And you shouldn't need anything over 50# and thats pushing it, some guys on here never shoot above 30#, but again everyone has their opinions and favorites.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the insight. I'm just gonna stick with the AMS or Discovery for now... For the price, it sounds like they can't be beat

I'd go with the 40#. Could always turn it down a notch if ya want to.

Bow Poundage is a lot like Engines and Trolling Motors. You'll never wish you had less. Bows can always turn down. I wouldn't pigeon hole myself into a 30lb bow. ATA is also a consideration if you draw more than 28".

Martin is coming out with the "WaterWolf". It's a 30-50. I also believe they said 3.2 lbs. I'm headed down there tomorrow to put one in my hands.
