I have the same engine and had just about the same probelm......i took my flywheel cover off and found 2 diodes melted. One for each coil.

 

can you tell me were the diodes are at

 

They are in the wire that powers the coil...probably 4 or 5 inches from each coil, they aren't much bigger than the wire so look close and you will see them-if there bad you should see a burnt spot in wiring.

 

Take the plastic cover off the front. They are right under that, one to each cylinder. It's more like an inline fuse.

Bought mine from Radio shack, Not 100 percent sure if they are diodes or just a fusable link like carpmjh said. Put the diodes in and it works fine. Called briggs and they said to buy the harness for like 38 bucks. Not a bad idea but this worked fine for me.

 

Burnt mine up once, I hooked up a wire the wrong way.

 

I ended up getting new ones from a small engine shop near my house.

 

Looked at wires the diodes are burned now have to find new ones any help with that

 

Go to your local lawnmower shop. Most of the time they will have a pile of used motors. You may be able to rob a harness off of one. Its likely that harness will be interchangeable with other size engines. If not just order the new harness and have them print you a wiring diagram to make it easier to hook everything up.
