benelli,stoger,franchi,uberti--- great guns few of them under $1000

browning,winchester----best gas systems, just really high priced for gassers.

Remington---they have gotten most of the kinks out of that versathingy. again- a lot of jack for a gass gun

mossberg,escort---low price, good looks, next year throw them away and buy another one.

ive had most of them, shot them all. they are all good guns, some will be good guns a lot longer than others. everyone has their "price comfort level" the most important thing is just get one that fits you best. buying a gun that already comes with shim kits will insure a good fit. just go to the biggest gun store around you and put your hands on every single gun you can until you find the one that feels best.

I just got the mossberg 930 JM series hold 9 or 10 rounds might not be good for duck hunting but they make ones that you can in the 930. I shot it with cheap 3"duck loads as fast as you can pull the trigger it let the lead fly. I have a video of shooting it if I can get it up if I can figure it out

I used to be a Benelli guy. I used a Beretta Xtrema for a week during snow goose season 2 years ago when my SBE II wouldn't cycle shells. I made the mistake of buying a super vinci and quickly realized that could not handle the ice storms and mud. I picked up an Xtrema 2 and never had an issue. I bought the A400 Xtreme last fall and could not be happier. It has only been through one spring snow season, but handled it flawlessly. Gonna be tough to find one for under $1000, but I have seen the Xtremas going for under $1000. My second choice would be the Winchester SX3 and third would be Benelli. Stay away from the Versamax! Everyone I have been in the field with ends up with parts of the action falling out.

Get a sure cycle system for your SBE... I have installed this in my M2 - SBEII and Vinci... even put one in my Xtrema but that guy just sits in the safe feels like I'm shooting a 2x4...

But if I was going to try to find a guy for under 1K I would get NIB Stoger or Franchi I see them for sale all the time for 600 to 900.00

I love my extrema 2. I've owned basically all of the guns mentioned above at some point but knew I found the right one with the Beretta. If there was a single gun that made everyone happy then there would be no need for multiple gun companies. My suggestion is buy what you shoot good or feels right in your hands but I really just wanted to stir the pot since I seem to be the only one shooting a "2x4" and love it.

that's a lot of brown...lol... J/K... if you like shooting the 2x4 go for it... not all Berretta feel like a 2x4 just the Nova and Extrema do for me... I grew up shooting Sporting Clays because my dad owned a Range... I shot a 686 silver pigeon O/U as my clay and upland gun and back in those days if you were a kid that won a Sub JR or JR title you got a free A390 auto... I gave a few to my brothers and kept one for myself for a duck gun and it has been a work horse... if they would start making that as there waterfowl base I might go back to shooting a gas gun....

I'm a big Benelli fan but since Benelli is now owned by Berretta I guess that means I like Berretta too lol. I've heard good things about the Stoeger M3000 and M3500 if you are on a budget and want an inertia driven system then go with Stoeger. If money is no object why not just get what everyone wants that being a Benelli :D

What happen to all the real duck hunters, get a good o/u or a old school pump mod12 .lol. All serious now go get a nice 3in 11-87 or 870. Modern auto guns getting bad as have to by the newest bow made every year , and if u need to shoot 3 1/2 in shells try actully calling a duck to u . Lol

No need to shoot 3 1/2's, IMO it is added recoil for not much in return! I've killed plenty of bird with 3 in shells at 40-50 yards. As far as the chokes go, I gotta say they do make a difference. Watch a friend of mine this year stone a goose at 70 yards with a Pattern Master Code Black... very impressed with that performance of that choke. Calling them close always makes things easy but sometimes the birds just don't want to finish, when that happens you gotta be able to make them finish with the steel rain!

I guess we should define what "finishing" is, to me finishing is feet down in the decoys. when I say they don't finish I mean they are well with in shooting range 35 yards and under but aren't going to come down the rest of the way.
