Hey, I missed you guys! I got talked into doing a chemical peel the Monday after the Utah State Championship tournament and I was out of commission while my face fell off. If you don’t know what a chemical peel is, check out my facebook page for pictures of the process. But, my face really DID fall off…thankfully it grew back in time for the Idaho State Championship tournament.

Last weekend was the last IBA tournament at CJ Strike Reservoir, just outside Mountain Home. We went up Wednesday for some camping and relaxation before the tournament. I’ve got to say I am in love with The Bowfishing Shack (the 5th wheel). It’s nice to wake up and be able to brush your teeth with real running water before facing the world. I still look like I’ve slept outside, but at least I don’t have to smell like it! The doggy fence is fully functional and we only had one escape beagle during the trip. That in itself is a success.

Thursday some more people came up to camp out and relax. We went to dinner at the Black Sands Resort, a term that should be used loosely. There were about 30 tables in the place, every one full, and only one server. Said server left in the middle of taking our order to deliver some food to another table…and then never came back. We had to flag her down 15 minutes later to ask if the rest of us could order. Back at camp, a couple guys took “relaxation” to a whole new level, as evidenced by the boat that was somehow parked at a 45 degree angle on the fender of the trailer. I didn’t see it happen, but I did gaze in wonder at that boat. Glad I braved the “resort” instead of the boat ride!

Friday night was a party as usual with the rest of the crowd showing up for the tournament. Tents were set up, then moved, then moved back and finally settled in. Tiki torches were on, Milky Way Brownies were enjoyed and many verses of “Oh Brown Beagle, bang da lang” were sung at full volume. All was well until we realized there was a 7am send off. Just ouch.

After sending the boats off, I slept in Saturday morning. When I finally drug myself out of the trailer, I went straight to the water. I might have missed out on shooting the fish, but I wasn’t disappointed at all to spend the day with the girls, floating around in the sun and pretending we were in Cabo. The only thing that got me out of that water was the rumor of the biggest carp ever seen down at weigh in. I was expecting a fish tale (and a 20lb fish) when I saw Moby Dick being pulled out of the bucket. Are you kidding me?! The thing was bigger than a small child and ended up weighing in at over 67lbs. Congratulations on the new Idaho State record for Common Carp (beating the old record by almost 20lbs)!!

We finished up the night with a raffle and some food before everyone turned in early. Sunday went by too fast as we packed up our stuff and waited for the tournament results. This year, the Idaho State Champion was actually an Idaho resident (at least half the team was), the second place team brought the trophy back to Utah (where all trophies SHOULD go!), and the triple threat was rounded out by a solid Idaho team that thinks they are from Utah. (check IdahoBowfishingAssociation.com for results)

Great location, great hosts, great friends = GREAT WEEK!
