Wanting to get into the sport but looking for a recurve I could also use for target shooting. I don't want a compound bow; only interested in recurves.

Open to used; budget is preferably under $500 (haven't bought myself anything non-work/life related in years!)

So, not sure if it makes sense to buy a nice recurve to eventually convert into a bowfishing rig or if I should get a nice bowfishing rig that I could also use for general shooting/practice.

Any tips, advice or suggestions for a newbie on what I should start off with in regards to bow/gear etc.?

Thanks in advance! I look forward to getting to know you guys (and gals...I am sure they are around here somewhere) ;)

Holy cow!

I fully expected to get a couple response (or the dreaded, "use the forum search" function).

I am a bit overwhelmed! Thanks a lot guys, much appreciated. Sorry for the late response; busy with work (work in the maritime industry down in Houston...meaning I am always busy with work). I have a lot of research to do based on the responses above.

I have some limited experience shooting recurves in college

Any thoughts on bows that can be broken down, i.e. reliability or issues over time?

Or wood vs composite? Or are used bows as reliable?

Does it make better sense to buy two separate bows?

Thanks for all of the advise.

Now to find that bow(s)

But really much appreciated!

One last question any reasonably priced, meaning can be picked up new/used for >$500, take down bows that are not manufactured in Asia? Would be great if they were made here but I imagine that's maybe not possible!

I could boost that budget up more too...I've been wanting a bow for a long time!
