New to using reels?

So I've been a retriever guy my entire time bowfishing, but now with purchasing a few new bows I want to make the switch to reels, but I've read articles on tying line to back of an arrow and this "snap back" but then I watched wbg444 video and it looks as though it just breaks off? Any help and suggestions would be great.

also dont trash, not a newbie bowfisherman just new to reels instead of retrievers.
