Finally got my throttle and gear shifting figured out now just need to figure out how to do my steering. I've looked into powrtran, a 7" push/pull cable, and also a stick steer cable with a gear box and steering rod which goes through the tube on the motor. What are y'all's opinions on this? I've heard some people talk about not liking their powrtran setups and not sure if the push/pull cable or the stick steer cable would be best.

I have a 20 hp mercury and I had to shave the stops on the motor down to get everything out of the power tran. So I don't think you should worry about that

I have a powrtran, its for sale. I like to know which way the motor is pointing at all times. I tend to get into "predicaments" and sometimes a good dose of throttle is needed to get out. I got tired of crashing into things with the powrtran. They work good if you don't mind looking over your shoulder all night. Just not for me, however I fish different then most folks.

With experience you just kinda 'know' where it's pointing, at least with my setup it was like that.

Is your PowrTran one of the new versions or original version ?

Yep after a few months running the power tran I've learned how much I need to turn and where that puts the motor. I idle it down and point it out towards the lake when I shoot a fish. Keeps me out of hitting stuff. I mean when the boat is going a certain direction should give you a pretty good idea where the motor is pointing. Might look back a few times a night but definitely not constantly

:cf:Sorry to here this I put a joy stick over the control button this help with the right ,left. you need to go right push it right no need to look back at motor it goes lock to lock in 2 seconds.

Have a joy stick with push throttle. It works awesome, not arguing the fact. I just fish better with knowing which way the motor is point at all times. I am usually fishing tight quarters or area with tons of debri in the water. Trying to avoid the debri and shoot fish at a damn near plane makes it intersting enough. Looking back to make sure I have the motor pointed the right way when I gas on it is the issue. I never said I had a lot of sense, just like to live on the edge.
