Ive got 8 150watt hps lights from ecconolight with caps in a ballast box. I bought a champion 2000 watt inverter today. Got home hooked it up and turned on 1 side, let warm up for about a min then turned on the other. It will run for maybe 10 min then kicks the overload. Cut off genny, start back up and do it all over again. If i dont let one side warm up it kicks the breaker. Is there anything i can do or am i just SOL? Thanks for any help. I no i have read that some guys are running all 8 no problem on eccon mode.

First thing you should do is check your actual load with an amp clamp to make sure nothing is wrong with your lights/wiring. If the clamp shows about 12 amps then I would take the genny back as defective. The only difference between econo mode and econo mode off is that in econo mode the genny will idle down with smaller loads. Capacity doesn't change. Econo mode off is good for starting bigger loads since it keeps the genny motor revved up and the motor doesn't have to catch up with the load when you first start it.

You need to check how many amps the ballast box is drawing from the genny.

Ok i put an amp clamp on the main feed coming out of the generator. Its reading between 12.6 and 12.9. It ran for about 30min then kicked the overload... I wasnt watching the amp clamp to see if it spiked or not. when i 1st started up the generator it was running a lil rough so i played with the choke and got that worked out. What do i do next?

Take the genny back because it is not working right. It should run that load with ease.

Well went and got a new genny.. happy to say this one sounded better from the min i started it up.. fired the lights up. Still have to let one side warm up 1st. Put the amp clamp back on it and it stayed at a steady 12.53 to 12.59. Let it run for about and hour then it started to light the neighbors house up so i turned them off.. ill try them again in the morning and see what happens.. thanks again OBG and everyone else for the help
