So- if we can't gaffs to land fish, maybe we should start using arrows with suction cups on the end of them as well, or we could just take pictures of the carp and who ever brings in the most pictures wins??--LOL
Just trying to add some humor in this thread

As Dell stated its no ther other than to help protect our image....dead floating fish should be avoided if possible and this would help.I think if presented to them in that example it will also show that we dont like what they are sure to hear about any more than they do.I dont think it was a law to be directed at us

Settle down there Doug, now don't be getting your panties all in a bunch until you have all the facts. In the past years the IBA has gained permission from Idaho Fish and Game to allow gaffs for this tournament and they are again working on that for this year.
AWESOME.. We will have the GAFFS ready for some Idaho Brutes.....

Sorry guys was not trying to get a ***** thread started. It does not state in the rules that they were granted special permission. So it looks like they are allowing teams to violate state law. If the F&G are working with you guys, then that is great. They would never work with us in Ca.
I am really looking forward to some of those Idaho hogs.
We will have our gaffs in the truck. We will make a be line to the truck, as soon as they tell us we can us them.
I Am Not against the use of them. I think they should be legal in all tournaments. They already have an arrow hole or two in them. So why cant we gaff them. We would put at least another third more fish in the boat instead of the bottom of the lake.
I also think we should be able to have a net and net them after they are shot. Nets are legal everywhere. So why not in tournaments?? I think any way to get them in the boat after they were shot should be utilized. Its better then them just sinking to the bottom after they rip a huge hole in them and pull off the arrow.
The nets are great until someone abuses them by free netting. That is probably why they are not legal in tournaments, because some douche bag was free netting carp in a tournament.
All the clubs need to band together and go to each state agency to legalize gaffs for carp only. That would help all the clubs. We need to educate the uneducated officials. Gaffs are good for Bowfishermen to help the retrieval of carp after shot with an arrow. They will help make sure that the shot carp make it in the boat. Further helping in the eradication of the invasive species known as "CARP"

Hopefully Fish and Game understand all the good points everybody has brought up over the years and grants permission- that said, if we cant use em then some of those "steroid fish" at Strike are definitely not gonna make it in the boat!! Del, Doug glad you guys are gonna make it hopefully we get nice weather, that place is brutal if the wind blows!

The wind will kill us in our 16' Ranger. I am heading down south with my team mate. We are buying a new 80# thrust Minn Kota. Then to Clear Lake. I am buying a 20' Ranger w/ 200 hp Merc. Wont be ready for Strike, but will be set up and ready for Boardman.

C'mon fellas, there's a whole lot being made out of nothing here. There is a meeting scheduled with three members of F&G Staff concerning this issue on Monday. We will be informed of their decision and pass that info on at the pre-shoot meeting. If you prefer to us a gaff, then bring it and worst case scenario is you will have to leave it in your truck but you would still be allowed to use it to off load your harvest. We're not going to promote or allow participants to do anything that could potentially bring them or the IBA as a whole, trouble with any law enforcement agency. The IBA has come too far to risk losing our privilege to continue to provide tournament outlets for you guys. The fact the (IBA tournament) rules state you can have a gaff aboard your boat may be wishful thinking and somewhat presumptuous at this point on our part however it must read that way in order to insure that all interested in using a gaff do in fact have one with them when they arrive. It's easy to leave them behind if we find we must do so and everyone will be informed prior to launch if that be the case.
Sounds good Rob and Kevin... sorry about sounding like a dick... just was tossing out what was in my head... guess I should just bite my lip...

$120.00 for two days. You'll probably save that in fuel, not having to tow your own. It aint much, but you'll probably have a good understanding of what 'ol Craig and Andy feel like when they watch everybody run away at Blast-off, lol!

Beats fishing off the damn???

We are heading down in the morning to get a trolling motor first in Redding then cut across to clear lake and look at the boat. Pretty sure it will be behind me truck on the way home. It needs new carpet and upholstery, but dont care about that after it gets covered in carp guts. The boat runs great. he just had it completely rebuilt with a factory power head. He has been fishing it on Clear Lake for the last three months and said it runs great. It is docked right behind his house. So we will jump in it and give it a hearty test. If it runs as good as he says. It will be mine.
Its a Ranger 390v w/ 200hp Merc.

I just got off the phone with the Fish and Game Department. Unfortunately for this year (and 2012), we will NOT legally be allowed gaffs to assist in landing fish aboard our boats. I was assured that the rule will be reworded in 2013 and that we will be allowed to gaff non game species of fish at that point. Sorry guys, but it is what it is.
