Ok, it's not as dirty as it sounds! Have any of you guys or gals had problems with carp getting soft later in the summer? Last year one of our tounaments was in July and every one of the buffs we shot was so soft we were just ripping out of them. Lost 20 or more that were all 20 plus pound fish. The only ones we got in the boat were the ones we got 2 arrows in. Anything a guy can do to keep from ripping out? I'm shoting 52 pounds so I'm definitely getting penetration.

The two tips I shoot are shure shots and gene Davis 4 barbs. You're on the right track. I use the gene Davis when I need more holding power than the shure shot (rarely).

IMO if your shooting big fish then your better off using something with more holding power even tho they will be slower. I actually like the Muzzy big fish adapters. Yes it takes a little more time to get the fish off but your a lot better off with taking the time to get them off than to loose them. You are also a lot better off to hit them up high where there is more meat to hold.

cajun lil stinger 4 barbs are the only point i use for big fish.... piranhas or the shure shots are all i use for numbers.

like others have said, try to hit them high in the shoulder and get a pass through and u will usually land the fish. especially with a static tip like the lil stingers

Are you shooting numbers or big 20? If your shooting big 20 you shouldn't need to worry as much about speed

Had the exact same problem last year. Shooting all the way through fish and still pulling out. Chalked it down to Sure Shots being the main reason. The quick release is nice but when the tips tightened down those barbs dont flip sideways and stay at a 90 degree with the shaft like any other regular point, like a cajun phirana. so if the barbs stay vertical they just go right back through the holes they already made or make brand new ones real quick on the summer soft fish. I quit sure shots and quit pulling out. haha every time I hear someone on here say this my first thought is "well were ya using sure shots?" kept reading and sure enough...

90% of the time I shoot Cajun long barbs pinched together. When water gets hot and fish get soft I move to Cajun lil stinger 4 barbs (mainly big cats). Then when all else fails innerloc 3 blade grapples (Usually buffs) in august. The first time I got into the buffs I was shooting the long barbs. Probably boated 1/3 of what was hit. Then moved to the lil stingers and picked up to about 50%. Mostly due to the huge hole they blowed in the fish. The last outing I had when I was in them I used the 3 blade grapples. I boated 78 buffs and had 3 pull offs. By far has been the best holding point I have used in those conditions.
