Pusher fan build 35 hp vangaurd.

Boat: 16/56 south fork custom, flat rake and short transom.

I 'm going to start this out by saying, by no means am i considering myself competent to do this. I feel it is necessary to show my build whether i have a failure or success. One problem is i have yet to purchase my reduction drive and or prop. I do have a small three blade prop but i plan on using a 6 blade prop. during this current bowfishing season( summer ) i will continue to use the boat with the 35hp mud motor on it, but coming this winter i plan on removing it to finish the fan build.

I know im going about this the wrong way I.E. the steps im using to build this.

I want to say a special thanks to whiteriver rambo and north texas slayer for their awesome write ups and utube videos, and for putting up with my stupid questions.

Unfortunately the $$$ is a little short, and both my welders have shot craps on me during this small part of the project and im in the market to buy a new welder this week.

With a few boat projects i took on last winter i gained some 1/4 aluminum plate 1/8 aluminum tubing. My aluminum center 8" OD 12" long tube i received for 20 dollars. The 16 tooth sprocket is from rural king and the 60 tooth sprocket is from amazon.

1st i started out researching, researching, researching, researching...etc
2nd i drew up some plans on graphing paper with architects ruler using 1/4" scale. I've only changed it 12 times...

The main platform for steering

I took the drawn plans and put them to use and created the steering platform for the motor.

I'll be using the same chain and sproket system as north texas slayer. The chain tensor is the two fs206 bearing one end is slotted and the other is the pinned guide.

Hopefully this wont be as dragged out as it could be but ill try to post some up dates weekley

The wooden dowl in the pillow ball mount i turned down on my wood lathe to use as a centering device while i drilled the first hole for the bearing so i could bolt the bearing down while i drill the rest of them down.
Bro. Your playing with fire bringing a big fan on top of that boat. You'll most likely capsize it. I've seen this to many times. You got all you need, the backwater mud motor. Build a rudder for the front and run it. You can search my post of my boat and see it. But I've built a 35hp fan on a 1660 and it was very tipsy. I mean VERY TIPSY! If you want a fan on that size of boat go a lot smaller and lighter
correct me if im wrong. I plan on placing the fan as low as the prop will let me. since ill be removing the backwater mud motor. looking at 48" above transom 6" forward of the transom. Also weld the sponces into one big "huntdeck"...

The big issue for me is it will be my only mode of transportation. however i never fish far from where i put in so i never need to traverse across open water.
Couldn’t weld tonight but busted out the drill bits

I had an 18.7 hp kaw on a 15-44 and it was scary tipsy. The COG was way higher than was safe.

It appears from my calculations that the center of the engine will set approximately 22" above the transom. Is this still to high COG for any stability?
that boat would not be best for a fan, you have a mud motor already. You should look into putting a rudder on the front of the boat to steer like another guy did on here.

I think you would save yourself alot of time, money and frustration going that route

Then you can use a linear actuator to trim the mud motor to get the cavitation plate properly at the surface of the water.......omg I love this idea....but I absolutely hate my motor and my trolling motor, I’m tired of having 3 battery’s in my boat. Basically I want rid of the trolling motor and the batteries with it too. Still wouldn’t have reverse!

If you have a troller you could use that to steer the boat in the front instead. Also run a trottle for the mud motor to the front or gear shift and use the troller to go in reverse. Bingo Bango
im still going to build this pusher fan and just set it aside for a wider boat. just bought my new welder today. Got a miller multimatic 255 from bakersgas.com however im having to wait until i recieve the welder for some promo on my invoice and ill save $225 on my spoolgun. going with the 30A

I owned a airboat for years. They don't have reverse either, but everyone thinks they want one. I never have to adjust my trim height on my backwater. Just set the pin and run it. Add a throttle and kill switch and you'll have it wooped. I don't have it on mine because I use my boat for way too many things.
Welder isn’t here still! Can’t do anything until welder is here.
We are doing a 35hp. Vanguard build right now also. So far we have the engine, reduction drive. Shafts, bearings, Cogs, aluminum ,ordered the prop but it's not been delivered yet. All that is left to get is #40 chain, and all the actuator stuff and Exhaust fabricated we have the rear mount muffler we are going to cut off the flanges and raise it up.
Weld and spoolgun is in. Work has been crazy. Looking into globe but still building the pusher too. Hopefully next week I can start on this again. Working on old vw dune buggy, this week!
