I'm running a powermax 75amp off my generator on a 12v battery for my LED lights. Can I use a different type of battery like a 6v to save on space in my boat? Will I still get plenty of power or do I need to keep it at 12v?

Consult the manufacturer. I use two very large audio capacitors. You see the amplifiers beat up a power system. So a capacitor is used to smooth things out. It weighs a lot less than a battery.
