Couple months ago I picked up an old Darton SL-50 for $20. Bow was in good shape but had an old spray paint camo job that was chipping away and had some bad runs in it so I decided I'd spruce it up a bit.

Here it is stripped down and ready to be sanded.

Unfortunately I don't have the cash on hand to get it dipped or custom painted so I decided to just go ahead and do my own spray paint.

Decided on a simple red riser and black limbs. Wanted flat but couldn't get flat red so decided on gloss and I'm gonna give it a couple coats of flat clear and see what it looks like.

Here's the riser and limbs after paint. Not too bad considering that I've been stepping outside into a blizzard to spray them. Got a run in the upper limb but not bad enough to worry about, it will do till I decide to do something else with it.

Just gotta let it dry, get a few coats of clear, and put everything back together.

Also just ordered my gargod string yesterday and Jeff said he's going to make it tomorrow and get it sent out. I'll get more pics up as things progress.

Yeah the upper limb kinda looks like crap cuz it's got a run in it and got speckled by snow while I was spraying it, I'm gonna leave it for now but It'll probably start to bug me and get repainted in a month of so. Might just wait till the bow is together and tape everything off and sand and repaint the bad spot.

Decided to just go ahead and throw it back together. Only thing left now is to put on my Gargod string when it gets here. Ain't nothing special but I think it beats the camo that was on it and will do just fine till I get the cash to get it dipped or custom painted.

Also if anybody is in need of a bowpress, this is what I used. Ratchet strap looped around a 1/2" by 1 1/2" stainless steel spacer on each to pull against the limbs, wrapped spacer in electrical tape to protect paint. Worked perfectly, total cost of $9.

Also try a few coats of clear to tie it together. If you look at my first pics it was super shiny but I hit it with 3 coats of flat clear coat and that really brought it together. I like the Valspar interior/exterior clear coat. Comes in Gloss, Satin, and Flat. It protects the paint really nice after it dries and at least with the flat gives it a little rough texture that a little easier to hold than straight paint.
