was wondering if anyone had any ideas on mounting some sort of contraption to the foot of a push pole to retrieve lost arrows. we all know arrows aint cheap and when the waters cold a dive is not an option. worst feeling is losing an arrow and seeing it in the water but its too deep or too cold to get it back. guess a decoy hook would work but lookin for some other input. Thanx

I had plannned to set something up using my "talon" made for retreiving items from a treestand. However, I started using a Bowline Knot last year and never lost and arrow to it coming untied (seriously). The key is after you tie the knot make a additional overhand stop knot on the tag end. All my buddies rig the same now becasue they were losing $50 a night in arrows swimming away in fish. Occasionally I had an arrow that got STUCK deep, but I don't think any tool woul dhave been able to pull it out. I still am thinking about setting up the talon w/ lead to retrieve other items that choose to take a swim :)

Never had that problem because the water is never that clear here. Talking about an arrow that broke off the line, but is not stuck on anything? Magnet on a string ought to work for that. The points are steel after all.

I use a long handled gig for arrows that are stuck in logs or brush, but still attached to the line. I run it down the line to the arrow; torquing the gig head allows a decent grip on the arrow, along with pulling the line.

I don't know your situation or why you are losing arrows, but a figure 8 knot is a good knot to learn. Three variations I think, but the same result. Climbers use it for a reason.

If I can SEE it I aint leavin it,I've swam for a couple arrows in some naaaasty ass water but I got one back using 3 size 0 treble hooks wrapped together with fishing line. (really only worked cuz there was 5 feet of line trailing in the water to snag onto though) DONT BE SUCH A MARY! JUMP IN!! :tu:

I have a piece of conduit a few feet long. then took another piece that fits inside of it and made a T handle out of that. Then at the opposite end I bolted a small wire..like from a snare or something similar. fished it up through the pipe and connected the other end to the T handle leaving a small loop at the far end. If we lose an arrow I just slip the loop over the end of the arrow and pull the T handle till it tightens up. Then just give the whole thing a yank and up comes the arrow. I've had the arrow buried all the way up to the safety slide stopper and had it stuck in lilli pad roots. And this pulled them right out.

I have been working on something for about three years now to do just what you guys are asking about. The problem I have found has to do with gripping the arrow shaft tight enough to actually be able to pull the arrow without gripping it too hard and damaging the fiberglass arrow shaft.
