I'll take a few pictures tonight of what's behind the back bench. I'm going to be adding a linear actuator similar to Mark Land's boat as well for power steering w/the teleflex as backup if needed.
It's just the ring Around that's solid the rest is open. It won't affect the performance or noise levels. They've done them before and you can't tell a difference. A completely closed off shroud would not work however
The myth busters tested a hover fan and a fan with tight tolerances to a solid sidewall created more thrust than one where the tolerances weren't as tight on the sides(fan tips) I guess it didn't allow as much air to be pushed off to the sides.
I could see where it might be a bit louder though since it should be making a little bit more thrust
