My rail has saved my self and countless buddies from getting wet multiple times. Only had one guy go over and was a result of a combination on a wet deck and 2 ft waves while chasing rays. I'll stick with a rail just below the knee height

Working on a removable rail for our boat now for 10 50watt seelites. Rail will be just tall enough to clear lights and will be about shin high. To me a rail is a must unless your lights are under the deck, even then I think I would still want something so in knew where the edge was atleast. Here a pic of ours so far.

.....off subject(I despise rails)but you will want to support the top of that troller when stowed,or you will have a cracked bracket....quick like

i like something to lean on made mine about 2 inches above knee i,m on the short side tall guy might hit even or just under.

Right on. I put up a pic when it's complete. And if I don't like it, I take out the bolts and toss it.

I am still ALIVE because of a knee rail, will never shoot without one.
We hit a submerged object on the Missouri river and my foot hooking the rail was the only thing that kept me half way in the boat.
My new platform has a stronger rail just below the knee.

No FISH is worth my life!

I took my nine year old Grandson out on the Meramec one nite, I told him before we went to practice grabbing the rails just in case something happens, a short while later we were trying to pull thru a strong narrow shoal, we ran out of power, the boat turned sideways and slammed into a boulder stalling the generator and killing all the lights, this scared me to death, all I could think is where is Cameron? I quickly looked for him and found him hanging on the butt rail for dear life, all was well thanks to the safety bars.

My rails are just above knees and they save alot more than they hurt but evidently everyones not hittin stuff like i do. Would not wanna have to be without them

It's seems like you loose floor space with the airboat style. They keep you close to a foot from the edge of the boat. Making it harder to shoot straight down. Not sure though.

That's not bad. LEDs?

I originally wanted to build mine that way, but my boat is 96" wide at the back and only like 80" at the front. So I thought I would only have around 70" with the lights. I built a platform 8' wide with the lights under it, so I've got a ton of room to miss everything I shoot at.

Glad somebody started this thread I was originally going to do 12" just to get my lights underneath but now I might go 15-16" so they come right under my knee cap
