didnt get much done today on build. i basically just stared at the jet ski hull and the boat for about an hour and a half this evening. i guess im just freaking out a little about cutting a hole in my boat. lol.... i just want to be sure of myself before cutting. going to make a template tomorrow to set up against the jet ski hull to act like the bottom of the boat, then can use that to stencil onto the boat after i get it just right..... maybe this is the part of the project that keeps very many people from ever doing this whole jet ski engine in a boat thing. lol. will post progress tomorrow night.

Mike don't worry about cutting a hole in the boat... If it doesn't work out I can weld it all back up and make it look better than a factory job. So you can rest easy knowing you boat won't be scrap!!! :D start cutting!!!!!

Thanks Tim & Brandon for the advice & pep talk. LOL. Don't worry though, your entertainment will continue..... Its definitely getting cut! Lmao! Have come to far now to bail on this project. Will make template when I get home from work tonight.

I have had a jet boat of some sort for 20 years, I am by no means an expert on them, but i have a few questions. First, why do you think you need pods on the back? I have never seen pods on the back of a jet boat, trim tabs, but never pods. Second, how do you plan on adjusting the trim? Being able to control the trim and the nose of the boat is a big part of a jet boat especially one that is front heavy like a bowfishing rig. Also, have you thought of adding a tunnel to the bottom of your boat to force water into the intake? Good luck on the boat, I hope its as much fun as it looks. Jet boats are a blast.

put the pods on mainly for weight reasons. we fish with front and rear decks and because we fish with such a long front deck all of the weight from the fish ends up being closer to the back of the boat. we also do not and will not use a generator with lights mounted on the boat. we use lights mounted on our bows. so for tournaments, we typically carry four batteries for the troller and a battery for each shooter (3). so we have had weight issues in the stern of the boat for awhile even before this project. the addition of the jet ski motor with battery and gas tank is going to significantly weigh more than the setup we had previously. i guess i was just making an educated guess that we are going to need the pods. but at the same time thinking, if it turns out that the pods cause issues, i'll just remove them. as far as trim goes, the majority of the jet skis i have looked at do not have this option, including the one i am using, but i actually looked into this subject the other day just in case we do happen to need to make a change. for that i will just get a different degree pump wedge. the whole project is obviously quite an experiment, but i am completely expecting some kinks that are gonna need to be worked out after we get a chance to drop this thing in the water and play with it a little.

k, so after staring at this thing for a couple days now, i finally decided to "man up" and cut the hole in the boat. was very time consuming and tedious, tried to measure everything over and over again before ever making a cut. want this thing to fit as tight as possible when i drop it in. but, for now, i'm still feeling pretty good about the whole thing. i cut the hole just slightly smaller than what i think it needs to be just in case i was off at all.... can always make it bigger if need be (thanks, Brandon!). lol. gonna try to drop the jet ski hull into the hole tomorrow night. here's pics from today:

Why are you against running a generator?

totally not against it at all. just have never used one on either of our boats. dont want the noise or vibration if at all possible. also, like to be able to shine wherever we want and keep from shining into houses if need be.
