Yea here they mainly keep to themselves, I mean I stepped within inches of that one and he just wanted to go away the only reason I shot him was we had a small puppy that hadn't had snake shots Yet and he wouldn't leave the snake alone and I didn't want him to get bit. Usually when we come across them in the water when we're waiting or fishing they usually just turn the other way and go about their business.

Copperheads on the other hand down here Will straight up chase you. I've been chased many times sometimes being as far as 15 to 20 foot away they're very aggressive they don't like anybody being around the territory if you step close to them they will come after you.

Killed this one last summer while out frog giggin. My buddy almost stepped on him he was curled up in a hole. Good thing I am still able to use a gigo

I remember a trip when I was about 16...
Me and my BF Mike were floating down a narrow creek on lake Tawokoni bow hunting rabbits. We were in a 14 ft. flat bottom and the creek had lots of overhanging trees. All of a sudden I hear a "Thunk" and the biggest Cotton mouth I have ever seen dropped in the bottom of the boat!
I jumped out one side and Mike jumped out the other!
We quite literally "Gave him that boat"!!:

I have been bit by poisonous and non posonous snakes doing everything from working, walking, hunting, and just being drunk while camping, but the one activity everyone thought i would surely get bit doin(bowfishing) with my luck is bout the only thing i havent been bit while doing. Had alot come in the boat on the end of an arrow and several that met the fish thumper up close and personal after falling into our boat but so far been lucky enough to strike first.

I work doing oil/gas surveying in south texas and come across rattle snakes more often then I want too lol Ive only heard a couple of them (slight tick) before we got to close Most times they are getting away or in striking position. Guess they dont rattle as much as they used to

Yeah that is exactly what I was referring to in my post earlier I can remember going on sheep and mule deer hunts years ago and they would rattle as soon as you got within 10 to 15 feet of them but now it seems like you almost step on them before they even give you a warning and most of time they don't even give you warning most of the time all you see is them striking at you or slithering away as you mentioned.

Biologist are saying that they're learning not to rattle
Bc the wild pigs attack them and can locate them when they rattle

Freakin scary... First time I ever seen a poisonous snake in the wild was when me and Tyson fished with you..
Lol "Dude let me get a pic with it!!....it's alive chit it's alive throw it overboard!!!"

When i was younger i would pin their heads down and cut the rattles off to show my dad then let em go. I didnt do that many times after gettin a good lecture about cuttin em off then somebody would walk up onem and get bit because there was no rattle to warn them

And this is why I love living in a state that only has one kind of venomous snake and it is very rare, small, non-aggressive and a rattler so it can warn you. I would loose my mind if I ever had a snake fall in the boat with me.

That's another thing, we're infested with black widows. My shop is full of them, If I look for them I can find 10-15 in a hurry. Haven't been bit but do have the antiserum from Mexico for them, 3 viles of it and you can't get it in the US.

Kill em all! I hate snakes because i have more encounters with cottonmouths than most. When i irrigate my hay pastures especially in a drought, every snake in the country likes to lay next to.the pipe. I have to walk down the pipe, pull plugs and replace the plugs in the open holes. My trusty hipoint 9mm is just about always on me. I know everyone has opinions on pistols but i shoot this one well, fits my hand, and is not an expensive pistol if gets dropped in mud n water. Snake boots are hot and not waterproof as stated (makes u wonder if they r really snakeproof but i aint gonna test it)
