So I have been doing a lot of research on this, and it looks like everything will work, but I want to double check.

I used to own a 48lb Minn Kota All Terrain and I am kicking myself for selling it.

I just picked up a Minn Kota All Terrain. It is only a 36lb thrust. All of Minn Kotas All Terrains basically use all the same parts, just the armatures are different, but use the same diameter housings.

Wouldn't I be able to swap in an armature from a 48# unit?

GO FOR IT! lol

I think you can as long as the armature/housing diameter is the same as well as the overall length. I tried to upgrade my 70 to an 80 when I replaced the armature a couple years back but minn-kota said the 80 housing was a little bigger so no go.

if the armature is to big they sell new housings, brush kits, props, etc as well

I already have the prop. An armature and brush kit is under $100 so it's well worth the money. Guess I'll order it up today And see.

The housing may be the same size but are the magnets the same thickness? The air gap between the armature and magnets play a big part in the motors torque and you may find a larger armature won't fit with the magnets you have

I guess if worse came to worse they sell new housings with magnets in them

Best deal would be to order a 55# motor complete---if I remember right they aren't very expensive.

True but the front part of the housing that is threaded to the shaft won't fit a bigger armature housing. By the time I bought all the new parts plus a new extended shaft, since you will more than likely screw up the composite threads taking it apart, I might as well just invest in a new bigger troller & sell the old one.
