so looks like you just shot a $1500 gar.

 

That is a super rare and valuable fish. Only 1 or 2 are found a year tops.

The ones I've killed this year are more orange than those. Is there a difference? I've also killed a bunch that are a really pale yellow with tan/brown markings, a desert tan color (really light tan) with either white or black markings, and I killed one that was flat black with an almost pearl white stripe from the back of the gill plate to the tail. Any of those anything special?

Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!:groan: I've killed 10 or 11 this year alone!!! And looking at that water and nw TN and its daytime I'm almost positive they came from the same place. I wish I had known. Where or who would I sell them too? (If it matters I have my TN commercial license)....kicking myself right now.

How does alcohol and light sandpaper effect a gars eyes? Just trying to figure out how to prep em for paint. Light base coat or self etch? Hahaha

Energy, just ran across some pics of your stingray paludarium on dendroboard, really one amazing tank. How many of these gar do you expect that this tank will support?

 

I have 7 gars and 14 stingrays in the tank now. This is down from when I had 24 stingrays in the system. If any more gold gars become available I will make room for them by selling off the stingrays.

 

Here is a good way to catch one of these unharmed.

 

The season is coming up- they should be active this spring. Keep your eyes open for these and call me if you come across one.

 

The tank is 15 feet long. 5 feet wide and. 3 feet tall. Approximately 1700 gallons

 

whats the age do you estimate the gar you have?what would be estimated life span they say gator gar can live 50 years or more but smaller breeds don,t know,
