Hi all, looking for a little advice, I can pick up this airboat hull cheap, I have a 30hp kohler pusher fan on a jon boat right now, have been looking for a bigger hull. I do not need a lot of speed, everywhere i fish i start shooting near the launch.... i do not have an outboard on my jon.... the reason i am thinking about the airboat hull is well 1 it is a lot wider than my boat now, already has cat walks and 2 with the fan mounted low i will be able to put the boat in my garage without taking the fan off, so my few questions/concerns are as follows

1. with a 30hp pusher fan do you think i will have trolling motor speeds or better on this hull?

2. is this just a bad idea ? and if not where would you mount the fan ? can i mount it to the floor with the bottom of the shroud being just over the transom (if thats what its called on an airboat)

Thanks all

probly the same reason I wouldn't want to. the light weight "pusher only" boat would be light and nimble and probly fish up to 10-12 miles of shore line in a night on 12 or so gallons. The only downfall is not being able to travel long distances or go anywhere fast. but by adding a big outboard or a big block will increase the weekly $ amount. And think of all the space the boat would have without a go fast/far motor. it wouldn't be a good ryde in rough water but neither is a airboat. there's quite a few of us that have thought of doing a boat like this but ive not seen anyone do it. Im hoping he keeps it light and straight forward, just for killing.

I would put an outboard or a small block on it. Being able to get up and go when the weather rolls in is a huge safety concern to me. We've all chased one too many fish and had to book it back to the launch/shore through the storm. At that point going 20 mph faster is worth the extra weight/loss of space. Just my $.02
