Check out the ******* airboats section under site sponsors and look at the genny rack thread we built one for the davel you can see for reference. Ive never been a big fan of bolting to the gunnels, theyre there to add strenght to your hull, doing so weakens them. Like mentioned you can do it, and prolly wont have any issues. I just had one bad experience with cracks and dont like to do it. You can get someone with an aluminum welder to weld you a piece of square or round tubing on top of the gunnell and bold it to that is what I always recomend. You dont have to do this, and many bolt to the gunnell which is fine in most cases. Just throwing that out there

I see a LOT of what I call "******* Engineering" around here. I personally have a problem with mild steel on a boat. It rust's. I don't like seeing rust stains running all down on my boat.

I do understand that most of you guys are in fresh water. Doesn't matter...It still rust's.

I on the other hand am in nothing but Saltwater. ANYTHING steel does not stand a chance. This includes painted steel trailers.

But I am privileged to have a alum tower shop that caters to me for anything I need. That is where my boat was modified after I cut it apart.
