Just bought a Seaark 2072 with float pods, I would like to run a trolling motor off the back. With a 115 yamaha and pods really not alot of room. Anyone recommend
something other than bow mount.? Was thinking maybe a pontoon mount bolted or welded to a pod

why do you want a troller on the rear? much harder to steer. the make trollers that mount on your cavitation plale on the outboard.
lots of guys are going with a kicker motors, save your troller money and find you a small kicker motor. then put that on a pod.

We welded a bracket on nose of our 2072 and use a transom mount with head spun around on the front of the bow in center. 50" -52" troller shaft puts handle at belt level or just below fishing off factory front deck... Post back if interested and will find our old build thread.. A lot of us have gone this route on the 2072's , I don't like the big folding mounts and brackets in the way on the deck with the regular bow mount trollers

whiteriverrambo: trollers that mount on your cavitation plale will not allow me to raise the big motor in the shallows where we spend most our time. I really don't think
I would mount a kicker to a pod, seams like alot of weight hanging off.

garpwacker that would be helpfull
In the first pic on this thread you can see troller mounted and height of handle on troller that we normally fish at with 2 of us on the front factory deck, with 3-4 people it raises slightly http://bow.fishingcountry.com/forums/showthread.php?33818-Loving-the-new-boat&highlight=De_bowfisher And post #43 on this thread has close ups of it mounted http://bow.fishingcountry.com/forum...m/forums/showthread.php?28239-It-starts-today-2072/page2&highlight=De_Bowfisher and welded on and further down this thread is the troller support mount we made for the troller when folded up that mounts in factory front seat mount in the front deck..

you said back of the boat. is this what you want or not? you just got a 2072 seaArk w pods, no need to worry about weight anymore. if you wanted to get shallow you should've bought a flatbottom.

i think this would still be a good option for you then. should be plenty of room for 3-4 kids to stand up there and shoot even if your designated driver. steering that big of boat from the rear and try to see past 20' of boat and moving shooters would be next to impossible.

But in the back on a 20 foot you aren't gonna see stuff to steer around, and being in front you can point out fish or keep lines straight and untangled, or help with fighting big fish etc... We have fished 5 adults but still had room on factory deck, it fishes to 4 people very well. Personally would be in the front with a troller...

I have a transom mount from our Riptide we will never use. PM me if you have a troller and can use this.

why is kicking a pod a bad idea brent??? i see it done quite a bit. few do it well but as long as you could get it up out of the water to run across the lake i dont see how it could be a issue.
You guys pretty much covered it. Just because you CAN do it doesnt mean its a good idea.

Just from using my kicker I can tell ya you wont have as much control steering from the rear of the boat, which would be even slower with a trolling motor. Plus you cant see what the troller is about to get caught up on, not to mention its gonna take longer to run back and free it up-I could see a lot of broken shafts.

If your troller is on the bow you can lift it over stumps, rocks, etc. Plus when it gets bogged down with weeds you dont have to run to the back of the boat to untangle it. And I imagine it might be more difficult to figure out how to leave it it when you pull it up and fire up the big motor. Plus you would have to either mount your batteries in the rear of the boat, which would most likely make it azz-heavy, or mount them up front and run super long leads, which isnt the best choice either.

I guess I just cant see any advantage to mounting a trolling motor on your float pods?
