Thinking of getting a new trolling motor and wondering what everyone has. I have got an 1848 and had an old troller on it and dont know the size of it but it was 12v an old motorguideIII i believe and moved the boat pretty good. Really want a 70 + troller but thinkin of just sticking with 55# 12v cause i like to have backup batteries on board. But im putting heavier deck on this year.. What does everyone use...please include boat size, run time and how many people if you would
also foot controlled or go cheap with a hand??

thx for any input

i have a 1852 jon this year i am starting to set up. im going to run my 74# minn kota hand contolled on it. i personally would go with less batterys and just get an iota!!! not only do you save space and weight, you dont ever have to charge your battery! i shoot 3 guys usualy.

last year i ran a 17' deck boat (HEAVY as he11) with that troller and 2 iotas with up to 6 guys at once! troller was workin but never gave up!!!

I think you'll want something larger than 55#. our old 1648 had a 45lb and the Boat was alot lighter than your 18ft boat and all aluminum deck and it would only last about 4hrs and got worked hard

I've got an 1860 double hull.. with 3 or 4 people usually.. My troller is a minnkota 45# copilot 12v with electronic foot control.. it came with the boat.. and does a GREAT job.. pleanty fast.. but i'd get a bigger one if I were buying.. no reason really but just for.. but i'd stick with the 12v.. Oh and it lasts all night (usually shoot 5-7 hours) on a good charged deep cell MAXX battery (the big one) running at 7-8 power.. And haven't drained one yet and that's running up river most of the time against the Ohio river current.. but we do keep a back up just in case!!

I got a 75lb wireless from sportsmansguide absolutely love it two people can have controls at their finger tips. Also I found out as long as your a sg member there is a lifetime warranty on their products . So I got it why would t you IMO best troller deal I could find if you don't want wireless they have tillers but I'd buy from the
And stay a membr it's like insurance on your troller.

new to this so sorry for the dumb ? whats an iota
An iota converter hooks to your genny and keeps your batteries charged while bowdishing so you don't have to switch batteries out. It works pretty well had one on a boat as well but it takes genny power.

What does everyone use...MinnKota 80# Riptide
please include boat size--1655
run time--Till I run out of gas for the genny
how many people---2-4 people plus fish
foot controlled--Not even in my worst nightmares
go cheap--- Never--Riptide or Maxxum-digital only
with a hand control---Heck yes!

I have a 2072, 76lb minn kota riptide hand controled, 24v battery set up can fish 3 to 4 people about 6-7 hours before it starts slowing down. I also have an extra 24v set up in the back of the boat I can switch over to as a back up

Damn! so you have 5 batteries in your boat? 2 for the regular 24vot, 2 back up, and one starting?

So for everyone that use a hand tiller. What size of shaft on it and do u have a raised deck if so raised how much...believe mine is hitting about 12" above boat

Also how much geny power does the iota use..watt wise

and thanks for the input everyone

Thats a lot of battery weight! I would go bigger on the troller so it doesnt have to work as hard and in turn the batteries will last longer. I would not even think about a foot control unless you have pedestal seats. Just try standing on one leg and operating the troller with the other on dry ground, then think about on water after a few drinks. I loved the wireless troller we had on the 1648, you could turn it with the remote or by hand.

Yea im use to one foot have about a 15 year old troller now that has the power button in the middle of the...and i dont drink any more since we always get hit by wardens...thinking if i get foot controlled that i seen where people put like a steer stick on it so u can control it with ur hand standing up

I have only 2 small[group 24] batteries total with each one connected to a DLS-55. Converters keep the batteries hot so I don't need a seperate starter battery. Helps offset the weight gain when I mounted the Eu3000.
