tying to the back with a shoot-through

does anybody think its a bad idea? reason being in alabama you cannot take a gator with a float, the tag end of the line must be attached to the boat. i took two gators last year with this setup (7.5' and 9') without a hitch but just wanted some more opinions about potential line wrap, mystery knot, etc. by the way i'll be using 400ff or 600gator cord.

out of the thousands of fish i shoot/shoot at every yr for the past 15yrs i think i have a better chance of being struck by lightning than to be struck by an arrow coming back....but hey...thats just my opinion...what do i know...

not exactly tied to the back but run throught the hole in the arrow and up to the tip where it is tied off. i'm pretty sure anyone that gator hunts ties this way and thats why i'm asking. can't tie to a slide, not strong enough to fight a gator. i guess i could just tie straight to the tip and lose an arrow (yj) every time but i'd rather not. i was also concerned that just tying to the tip of the arrow would not fly straight.

Yea,just tieing to the tip,I never could get it to fly for chit.I have no idea, about the way you describe.Just guessing but maybe with it not anchored at the back it may not come straight back?I dunno? If it was coming back I sure would rather it come sideways!!

Now we need more information. U can tie to the make or however u tie. And use 2000lb string as long as u use a RETRIEVER. U did say it was tied to ur boat so I'm assuming u are using a big game retriever.

Use a gator getter kit with out a float

i'd rather not spend the coin for the big game retriever since i can't use the float anyway. and yes in alabama the tag end of the line must be secured to the boat or another solid object, we don't get to chase a float.:td: if the concensus is retriever hands down then thats what i'll do, thanks.

guess i've been lucky the last 3 years. but even with the big game retriever and a gator setup the line acts as if its tied to the back when you draw, can't the line still get tangled on something,ie rest, bowstring, etc, defeating the safety feature of a bottle? any gator hunters out there?

Iv shot 600lb gator cord like you described...goin through the hole in the arrow and follow the shaft down and tie to the tip...we never have had an issue...but people do get struck by lightning...not saying you won't have an issue..but we haven't

This is a dead horse yall do as you please but there are a lot of folks on here that dont know better so,its best to give both sides I guess

The "no slack",has nothing to do with a Mystery Knot.I shoot a spinner and of course the line is always snug....mystery knots happen!!I guess thats something else I need to start taking pics of!!

We took 3 gators with the same bow last fall. We all used my hunting setup with a bottle reel. 400 FF ran thru the back end and tied to the point. Drop away type rest, sights, etc. allowed us to be able to hit an orange at 17 yards easily. Shot this setup dozens of times in practice and will do it again next time. There is risk in everything we do. Everyone should weigh those risks based on the true risk vs reward and make their own decisions. I know each time I get in my truck to drive to work I am taking a risk of not making it to work or back home, but driving is a far better choice for me vs walking. I know when I step into the shower each morning I am taking a risk, but for me the risk of being clean is worth it...and even though I could choose to sit in the shower to lower my risk, I choose to stand. For those that think that is funny...look up the stats on deaths by falls in the shower and see if I am joking.

i have seen the gator getter and i think i understand how its tied so the point releases from the shaft after the gator is shot but the shaft stays attached to the line. the main line from the bow is attached to the point, doesn't this affect arrow flight? someone please post a picture of thier gator setup.
