I wish I could have made the open it sounds like you guys had a blast but it pissed off a bunch of people around the lake.
I was having dinner down the road at the lake of the Ozark Sunday and people in there were talking about getting a petition together to make sure that dont happen at Lake O.
Were the airboats that loud?

We haven't gotten that many complaints. The few complaints we have had were from a small area where this fishing was good. These home owners were really pissed off because people were doing laps around the coves they live on with airboats all night long. Overall i would say it was great success, even the Core of Engineers was behind the event.

Plus that seems odd at Lake-O with all the crazy loud power boats up there.

what you have to realize is that a public lake open 24/7 is only open during the 24/7 that it's convenient to the people who moved to the lake and now feel that anyone else doing what they do not like is a problem. Happening more and more.....problem is, it's still a public lake. Makes it hard for anyone who lives there realize this. With society the way it is, political correctness seems to supercede correctness....

We had one airboat fly down the river, then back up while we were fishing. This thing was LOUD! We were prolly 400yds away and could feel it in our chest. Insanely loud. Almost hurt our ears at that range.

While we thought it was pretty damn sweet, I could see where as a homeowner I wouldnt be happy listening to that at 4am. But I also think that as long as they have notice and its only one night, they shouldnt complain too much.

Read warriorp's post on this in the other thread. Best advice I've seen, even if u don't own an airboat. Don't say stuff bout em bein too loud or I wouldn't want em around ect..bc if u let 1 type boat be taken away and u can bet ur azz the 1 u fish out of will be banned too eventually. Kinda like what's gonna happen with guns.
I'll copy an paste it here just so more ppl can read it

Warriorp's wise advise....,

Now, all bowfisherman need to stick together on the airboats and controlling your comments. Making statements like I can see how on that lake they will impose no airboats laws and regulations is not something to state on a public forum or in areas where bassfisherman and homeowners can overhear. Here is why - the mud boats are equally load these days with the hp kits, the cheap generators most people run are loud, and lights shine in peoples homes. If one freedom such as airboats is given up, then the next will be mud boats, next generators and next bowfishing. It is a double edge sword we all play with - so be careful and support your other bowfishermen!

Most lakes around here have a noise level restriction.. But it's not enforced unless people complain! And if you give them a reason they certainly will!

I'm not against airboats at all!!! But with that said if we don't make sure there mufflered were asking for issues. I understand the reasons behind air flow and hp but if we try to keep it reasonable? They will.

It boils down to common sense.. I live on a lake and although we don't have airboats, we do have some loud speed boats.. But that's only during the day mostly.. There's a big difference between a genny running and an airboat when it comes to noise! To be so arrogant as to say "if it pisses you off don't live on the lake" is about as stupid a comment as can be made! Point is.. If you don't self regulate and use common sense a few ruin it for everyone.. How many of us use to have 4-wheel'n places, hang out spots, swimming holes, hunting spots or whatever else that got shut down because some people didn't use common sense or just didn't give a damn and left garbage or tore stuff up?? Fact is.. I could care less.. But you better not take the argument that you have as much right as anyone.. Because this is America.. You don't anymore!! So use some sense when on populated lakes!

homeboy the blowboat we were in is about as quiet as u can get one. we were idling around and got shot at... not once but more like 10 times. but i guess thats ok its cool to shoot at people. getting pissed at airboats on a lake would be about like me getting pissed for a truck driving down the road in front of my house with loud pipes. im gonna start shooting at them. these people do not own the lake (all though he told me he did) and if they have an issue they have options. 1. call the GW. 2. call the police. 3. shine a spot light in my eyes. 4. im pretty sure shooting at every body that comes by isnt it. We immediatly shut the motor off after we saw what was going on to appoligize and to tell the nice young man that we would leave and not return. he did not accept our appoligy. at the of the day i never take my airboat around houses if i can help it. im gonna keep fishing and they can keep shooting just hope and pray they keep it in the air and dont level it out.

I agree with both, we need to do our best to keep them quiet as we can and the shooting is bullchit!! You got an issue call the fuzz.

And as far as the noise is concerned, even prop manufacturers are trying to make quieter props because even they see a issue with noise and the general population. So mufflers should be a standard( and I don't mean glass packs )....... As well as running dry during a tournament. :re:

I heard a airboat idling at the launch and thought boy that thing is actually pretty quiet. Than it took off and we could hear it in the truck for the next 10 minutes. That lake was bad because of the tunnel effect in which sound traveled. Its tough to quiet 500 hp but sure are cool.

I work every other weekend at a hospital, and carry a pager and get called out all hours of the night. Should I use the mentality of I'M SLEEPING HERE during the day when the loud speed boats are going? No if I lived on the lake......and yes, with a public lake, noise at night is just as common as during the day. now with this said, the lake is designed to make it worse than a normal lake with the bluffs, and to be honest, I do not know of an airboat that is not mufflered. They are loud, and the bluffs compounded that. It was for a few days, and most likely will not be there again, but even if it is, what is a few nights out of a year vs. the boats all summer long during the day? I know normal people go to bed at night...what happens when that normal person has a major medical issue in the middle of the night? should I the abnormal one become normal and have you wait till a "reasonable hour" or should I get up at all hours of the night....now this is not just a few days a year, this is every other weekend.....I know...it's my job and it only makes sense, and so should living on the lake you deal with what the lake offers....but politics always abounds,,,,,,

We can turn this "Homeowners shooting at boats" into a political discussion, so Im only saying this.... If necessary, shots will be returned, I am licensed to carry and I will do whatever is necessary to protect myself, my team and anyone else in or around my boat. Homeowners have no right to shoot at anyone for being loud in public, whether in a boat or on the street... I will call 911, I will leave the area, but if I start taking rounds while Im trying to leave I will return fire...
