So this fall a buddy and myself are going to be doing a lot of self filming of our bowhunting adventures. We have decent equiptment so far but need a good editing program. I was looking at the Sony Vegas Movie Studio. Does anyone have expeirence with this one? Or if you have any other suggestions? The only problem i see with the vegas ms is im not sure if my current laptop will have enough umph to run it...

Good luck with the filming. I wish I had a partner. Solocaming is difficult to say the least. The few pros I have talked to seem to prefer Adobe Premier Pro. Yeah your gonna need at least 4 gig of ram and a video quad card and lots of storage. Call Tom P at Campbell Cameras. He teaches the editing school and can help. He is a really good guy to talk with. Thanks Rick. Ill actually be hunting near como. Up near Overton bottoms on land we lease. The self filming is going to present a new challenge. The plan is to self film this year then next year my buddy is going to get on the lease with me so we can film each other. We are slowly gathering the gear to do so and need a program to edit the film. I did some digging on my computer last night and it has everything i need to run that program but im not sure about the graphics card. I couldnt find specs on that...

Just el cheapo stuff. Camera is a handy cam DCR-SX45 and the arm ive got is the big game camera arm. Been looking into fluid heads a bit but think ill buy a better camera arm before i purchase one of those. And weve been looking at some prosumer cameras but those will have to wait until tax time...

Depends on how much you wanna spend on the editing software. I have all the big expensive ones ( adobe CS6, Sony Vegas, etc but most of the time I just use Corel Visual Studio. It is much more user friendly and does a great job for most editing purposes. If I want more advanced control of the footage I use after effects once i am done with CVS.

This year is more of an experimental year to see what we can accomplish with beginner equipment. If we like what were doin and want to pursue it further then we will look into the more serious cameras and arms and programs. So I guess what my question is...what is a basic editing software that I can cut and splice segments together to make a video such as one would see on a hunting show. Like a bit of hunting then cut over to an interview segment and so on...Also cant break the bank for now...
