That sucks man.
Being around rodeos I've seen a many a thumb get popped off roping. I know one guy who lost one thumb then statred roping left handed and lost the othere.. He had to give up roping after that.
But the doctors these days can do wonders. My ole man lost one of his thumbs team roping got it hung up in the dally and popped it right off. We found it, stuck it in a cup of ice and when we got tho the Hospital doc put it back on.
