A lot of your facotory lights are real heavy and bulky dur to having the lights and ballast in one box . A lot of weight on the front of the boat custom housing are more compact and just servs as light fixture and ballast boxes are in the back of the boat to help out on weight

Custom housings are housings that are build by someone and not on the commercial market. JPeater and Clark w/ ******* airboats on here both have them for sale.

Here is what the ******* housings look like.

not saying youll have any problems with econolight but these are much more durable than econolight.
But for a 150W housings you wont find an aftermarket housing unless you have someone build them to my knowledge . These are 400w fixtures

Now the ballast bow is a remote box placed somewhere else in the boat with all the guts of the lights( ballast, caps, ignitors etc) in it to get the weight in the rear of the boat and not on the deck.

if weight in the front of the boat is not a problem than leave the econlights as it. if it is a problem, then pull the guts out and install them in a remote box and use the econolight housing up front.

You leave the guts in that light on the front of your boat you ARE going to have problems eventually. Those components (guts) as well as the fixtures are not made to withstand the abuse that a boat is going to take hitting waves, pit holes, regular wear and tear. You need to pull the guts out if you are going to use factory setup. 150's "might" be ok and thats a big might but only because they don't weigh near as much as a 250 or 400 but your still going to have to reinforce the housings.

Custom housing
Digital ballast
Perfect setup

i run the 150s from econlight and made alum brackets to hang them used fender washers in side the housing and outside where i drilled holes to bolt them to brackets and havent had any issues with the housings yet although i have found the capacitors fall out of the little strap deal econlight uses.....other than that no complaints and they've been beat around pretty good from waves on tablerock on holiday weekends to trailered all over with out any problems jus put a dab of silicone on from the light to the base and youll be good to go. if your not in rush econolights runs the 150s with caps in them on special for like 47 bucks or somthin....
