What do I want on my custom built hull

Ok. Now that I've got a few names of some guys who can make my boat become a reality, and since it's going to be custom. What "stuff" is important? What things would you like?

2072 Hull. Looks like 3/16" on the bottom is the way to go. slick or ribbed bottom exterior? 24" or 30" sides? I would like a smoother ride so I'm thinking Modified V on the front even though I'm giving up a bit of space. Jack Plate on the transom? Pods?

The boat will be used for waterfowl so the deck will need to be removable. I am at a loss as to what to do with the console. Seems to me that center console takes up space when the duck blind is on. Side console gets in the way during bowfishing. Do you center the console forward, center or rear? I would like to have a 12"-18" raised shooting deck. Which console configuration gives the best line of sight?

Bring it on. What worked? What didn't work?

probly a forward center console. maybe you better look a GatorTraxx boats as well.

if it were mine and I was gonna spend 50k
- .190 hull.
-18" walk arounds with dry storage underneath.
- slickbottom with polly.
- 30" sides.
- trap door built in the front deck for troller.
- large pods or hunt deck.
- 105 Yamaha jet or larger.
- airboat style paint/sand floor and deck coatings.
- 40hp, 60" 6 blade fan.
- tandem aluminum trailer with oil bath hubs.
- and lithium batteries.

Go all 3/16" w/30" sides. If you going with a mod V, you might as well have a ribbed bottom. Center console, the farther to the back it is, the smoother the ride for the driver.

Speaking from experience, an 18" raised deck on top of 30" sides impairs the drivers field of view. If I did mine again, I'd prob only go 12" on the deck.

Definatly 30" sides and 3/16".
Return style transom like on Kajun's boat with no smaller than a 115 yamaha with pods
If you want a Mod V I would go with a very light degree hull with ribs
Since you need a open boat for ducks, a raised removable deck pbly would be best for you but like Kajun's said I wouldn't go over 12". I like big flush decks with flush dry storage but not good for hunting.
Would go with a stand up side console for more room with walk arounds with dry storage(never to much dry storage)
Big wash down pump and big drains would be a must.
Definatly a nice aluminum tandem axle trailer
Not saying that's exactly how I would build my boat but think it would work good for you and work as a dual purpose rig.

Degree of the hull is the dead rise or simply how much V shape the bottom has to it. For example a 3* hull would draft much shallower than a 15* Mod V hull and be more stable. Never rode on a flat slick bottom boat but I would think even a slight 3* hull would ride better and still give good stability. Maybe you have said, but is this going to be a troller, kicker or a fan boat?

All great ideas! Thanks

Wash down kit was something I would have never thought of.

With 30" sides how high off the water is the shooter on say a flush deck? We mostly night shoot but like to go out during the day as well so a little height would be good but I like to be able to see when driving. 12" raised deck may be just the ticket.

What is the narrowest catwalk (walk around) that is useable?

what about a huntdeck instead of pods? Fuel cell in the hunt deck?

What advantage is 3/16" thickness on the sides?

How wide is a standard console? Any duck hunters with boat blinds and center consoles out there? I need to hunt 4 and would like to hunt 5.

My 5.7 Hemi doesn't even know I'm hooked up to my 2184 all 3/16"

If you have a 72" floor and 102" beam and still have to squeeze past the console, 1: your console is way bigger than it needs to be or 2: you just need to go on a diet.

Thanks for the education.

This will be a troller to start. I am waiting for someone to invent the jet thruster impeller nav system (think lunar lander modules with multiple thrusters controlled by a computer module. You just move the joystick and the computer tells which thruster to fire, how hard and how long).

May be a fan build eventually if my space age thruster system never materializes

Follow up question on the Flat vs. Modified. How much deeper draft are we talking?

I like a side console too.....and for mod v, with 3 degree you will notice a difference in ride on choppy water but when you get waves of any size you will still have to back out of it if you don't want to beat the hell out of everything. If you plan to go fan it may be worth getting flat. I had a troller and then went kicker on my mod v and never had an issue with draft. The motors would hit bottom before the hull would.

I know this is getting out there a bit (Can't be more than my thruster trolling system right?). Is anyone doing a console that is height adjustable? Our current boat has a low console which works well during waterfowl season as it fits inside the boat blind and doesn't get in the way of the shooter. Problem is when running you are bent over. It kills your back after a bit. Could you fab up a console in two pieces that nest one inside the other with the actuators that raise and lower the console? I would think wiring could be handled with a harness that allows the excess to be kept out of the way when the console is lowered. Steering cables are what I don't know about.

If your going to be using it for duck hunting i'd go with a side console and the most wide open floor plan you can get. Defiantly go with 30 inch sides, Overkill is underrated.
Keep in mind it's a pain in the ass to have one boat used for both duck hunting and bowfishing unless your not planning on hunting out of the boat..

How big of waves are you gonna be riding through? That's your biggest hull design factor on flat vs mod-V. Seeing how you're from Missouri I'm gonna assume the majority of what you do will be in smaller waves...1-2ft'ers, so you should be fine with a flat bottom.

The only other input I'll throw in is go WIDE on your catwalks. You'll thank me later.

Oh...side console all the way :)

I'm currently building a boat similar to what you guys are talking about, 2072 flat bottom 30 inch sides center console more toward the back, going to run a 112 min kota with 3 power max converters and the lights will be sodiums! to blind the fish so they can't run lol. iv always shot off elevated decks but going to try flush deck because catwalks will be useless if the decks elevated. only thing i don't know is how wide my boat will be on top when its finished

I built a very similar boat to what your building, except I went with an 84" bottom with an elevated deck. The catwalks still come in handy b/c my steps are on the side. Simply step off onto the catwalk halfway down.

With a 72" bottom, your boat should be around 96 - 100" across the top.
