With out digging out the ampacity etc. guides if you use 10 guage you better have the batteries sitting next to the troller.
EXACTLY! took the words out of my mouth. You cant get by with 10awg wire for a trolling motor. And i dont understand why you wouldnt just get the 6ga wire to begin with. If your batteries are in the back your asking for trouble. whether its a 36volt or a 101 riptide, you need larger than 10ga wire

thanks guys... got a few more ?

1. what gauge is the wire coming off the Troller...? do I need to replace that with thicker ga...? seems to be smaller than 6 ga...?

I know when I got this troller 2 years ago we made a jumper out of the leads coming from my 40 lb Minn Kota that took a Dump... it didn't work they started to heat up and Melt in the 1st few min... Good thing we had a Auto Zone 10 Blocks from the Boat ramp that was still open... Problem Fixed...

this is my current set up for running my troller... but I want to set my batteries back more and not in the 1st 3ft of the boat...lol...

2. I know I should be running a inline fuse to keep from buring up my troller... so were does it go and how many Amp Fuse should I get...?

3. I got my Male and Female Plug already they are 3pin type ment for a 24v setup... but I'm lost... why the 3 wires...? shouldn't Red go to Pos Term and Blk go to Neg Term on the Batteries...? whats the 3rd Red wire for...?

thanks

You will not run a fuse, you will run a 50 amp circut breaker on each bettery hot wire

I use 4 gauge welding ground cable. flexible stuff too. I get it from a welder store in town. my 2 cents is bigger is always better. especially when bowfishing :)

OBG,can you flush mount one of those plugs, say in a panel or enclosed box? I know the other end of the plug will be attached to the troller's wires.I just didn't want the other end floppin' around on the deck.

Those two holes you see are for bolting the connector down. I use these on my removable winch on my mud boat. I have the connector bolted under the trolling motor mount. No flopping around!

Ahhhh...Gotcha.I noticed OBG had the cover also...I didn't find them anywhere.

Def 6awg. I too used an anderson connector. I was tired of the boat shop putting cheesy rubber plugs on my troller. I also found that they used ten gauge wire to my troller. Replaced all of it with 6 gauge and added the 175 amp anderson connector......bullet proof now.

You ordered a 50 amp anderson connector? that will be fine except for the fact that I don't think you can fit 6awg wire into a 50 amp connector. don't take that to the house because I haven't held a 50 amp plug. I just used the 175 amp so that I know for sure I won't ever have any problems with current flow. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me. I make my living as an industrial electrician and I enjoy helping when I can.

I had the same question as Kuger so that's why I bumped this thread.I,too, noticed they offered 2 different sizes,so I was unsure of which one to get. Thanks for the info.!

Those in the link are for 6 guage wire.
ANDERSON CONNECTOR w/CONTACTS #6AWG, SB50A-600V, GRAY

I use the 6 guage contacts on the boat and 10 guage contacts on the troller wires. I should have mentioned that earlier I guess. Sorry.

I run them on my 80# troller[56 amps @ 24 vdc] and they have been bulletproof. Almost everybody here runs the 50's on their troller since the 175's are huge. 101# troller amperage is in the 40's.

I get the covers and wire holders from Scrubber City.
