Beware because some cheap "6 guage" jumper cables aren't actually 6 guage.
i went with 4guage jumper cables just to make sure..and they are big to say the least lol

Dang!....You guys sure spent a lot of time talking and dealing with plugs.

Mine is hard wired. There is no plug. No need to plug or unplug it.

10ga cable that came from the factory is on the Troller still. But 4ga feeds from the batteries in the console to the "Power Post"

The factory 10ga goes thru the deck via a Blue Seas Cable clam to keep it watertite.

Then connects to the Power post. [There are boots that cover the connections. They are just not there for the pix.]

I have a ON/OFF switch in the console to kill the power going to the Power Post. It also has a 50amp Blue Seas CB

It's a better breaker than the internal thermo coupler one's like this.

You can physically see if it has triped and manually reset it.

Any wire supplier will tell you...
6 gauge wire is rated for 50 amps
Depends on the length of the run and what the voltage drop is figured at.

Those 2 factors have a MAJOR impact on the determination of the wire size.

The length of the run is the length of the Pos + Neg runs = Length of the circuit. I also want the least Voltage drop for max performance.

I use a shareware program called Wiresizer 2.0. It is very handy and lets you do things that a chart will not. mainly checking or changing the desired voltage drop.

I am interested in one of these converters but I don't know anything about them. Is the number in the model number the output? I have a 12v 55lb troller which I believe draws about 48 amps. If it is a 55, how much does it draw from the genny? Is there a website where I can find the specs on these units? Can I charge more than one battery with these. Example...can I charge my starting battery too since my mud motor does charge?

Very true and much more accurate than taking the word of your local supplier.

My manual for Minn Kota 50lbs says 50 amp and for my 80lbs it says 60amp... I put a 50 amp on my set up for my 80lbs... and it works just fine but at 100% it will trip after a few min... but we never run at 100%... way to much for my small boat...
