So recently my MinnKota Riptide 101 with 3x Steering burned up and after having it in the repair shop three times I decided to cut my losses and junk it. Besides everytime i fixed the 3x steering it would work for 30 minutes and go to chit.

I have an 1860 and already have a 36 volt set up, what trolling motor would you recommend? Specifically what Brand and Model and why?

I know a lot of folks have had problems with the 3X steering. I never did and liked it.

I have a Riptide SF 80lb thrust - 60in shaft on my new boat [1860 SeaArk] . I like it a lot. Circuit breaker and ON/OFF master switch are important.
With the master switch you can kill all power to the TM and that seems to help with corrosion issues.

I have tried a Remote control unit in the past. I think it would work fine for bass fishing and maybe Bowfishing. But it's not worth a Damn for Flounder gigging. You need a lot more precise control and that is what the hand tiller does.
