That's an awesome fish. I wouldn't have conked him that hard though, lol. It is almost definitely a spotted/longnose hybrid, and is the biggest one I've ever heard of. It's also the only one I know of being shot, all the others I've seen pics of were raised in captivity. (Another one of those fish worth 50k if you had him alive, probably!)
Well then if it is a HYBRID Ill make sure they start a NEW CATEGORY of fish and have the RECORD!! :)

Head spots of a spotted, though. That's the main way to tell the diff in Texas. Some longnose have a few muted spots on the head or snout. I e-mailed one of the gar experts to look at the pics, but I didn't get an answer from him yet...maybe because he can't figure it out, either.
