Any 2cylce oil will work for the day, I usually ran quicksilver (any walmart or academy) and got by a few times running stuff they sell at gas stations. But the yamalube or quicksilver for every day use is fine.
Our local dealer says that Penzoil 2 cycle oil is good stuff too. I ran it for 3 years with no trouble, my dad has been running it for 5 years with the same results.
As long as you stay away from some generic brand, you will be fine.
my self and my fishing buddy both have yammies and we have always ran quicksilver without issue in our engines. Good pure gas with fuel stabilizer is more important than oil brand imo. They all have to meet minimum spec by manufactures.
AMSOIL..... if you cant find it, order it. i still use it for my outboard and when i built piers and seawalls, i couldnt blow up a chainsaw if i tried! before that we used penzoil in our stihl 025's and would only last a year. once i switched to amsoil, i had the same saw for the rest of my career and its still kickin to this day.
I've heard from someone that was a certified yamaha mechanic that yamaha's with oil injection tend to favor yamalube!Amsoil and BIA Klotz (not R50 for injected engines) are probably the best if you want to stray from Yamalube but some yamaha can be finicky! We all have always broke all brands of motors in on yamalube no matter what brand dealer I worked for and on the race motors then changed over to Klotz, but most boat mechanics don't know chit!
