I was always told the TBA wasn't about tournaments, it was everything bowfishing, the tba should be about the state shoot and only the state shoot...there needs to be guys who will actually work with TPWD to help with studies and hard facts...I know guys who don't report tagged gador gar ever! I know guys who kill every gador gar they catch on lines because they are fishing for catfish.. there needs to be studies on the Sabine Trinity Brazos Angelina Red Neches and the Rio...each river is a completely different river/ ecosystem and needs different rules and regulations just like bucks in different counties.
Since the great gator gar debate the TPWD has been working with the TBA and even before that actually. We made our presence know that April and since then we have had constant communication with Craig and Dan. I even stopped and talked to Richard Ott the other morning. They were gassing up and headed out to do a vegetation study. Anywho, they send us write ups like Dan's paper. They've even set up special meetings for us. We were invited a few years back to attend a day long event that was outstanding. Dan and I gave a presentation on the grass carp tournament on Jacksonville that day.

It's not tarrant county even because Bridgeport falls outside of tarrant, but tarrant regional water district still controls the lakes and creates there own regulations. In those regulations no discharge of firearms is included in that. And I know some asshat will probably say I've fished out there for years and never been stopped. You're right, I have too, but that doesn't change the facts that the tarrant regional water district has outlawed Bowfishing, not directly, but with the no firearms clause. Furthermore for anyone who chooses to not believe me can go to the tarrant regional water district page and read article VII section A
We've been in contact with Tarrant County WA on several occasions. They know we bowfish on Cedar Creek and R/C. The only provision they stick us with is No Airboats. That includes no fan boats. We've tried to get them to waiver on the fan boats, they won't do it. Story is, there is a sawed off little man that enforces the rules on all their lakes. He's cool as long as you don't cross him. If you do, then we are in trouble. I know people have run both style boats on R/C at least, but we make sure if we sanction a tournament, then we enforce the no airboat/fanboat rules.

This is what TBA needs to be concerned with......
Just to clear up some false accusations of yours... http://www.trwd.com/ this website has the list of lakes in the tarrant regional water district. Not a single tourney was held on any of these in my region since I have been a active BOD. But it is a concern and should be addressed because there is some great fishin on a few of those lakes for sure!

Bridgeport, eagle mountain and lake worth are all close to me so they are of special concern to me, they're included in the trwd sanctions as well. We've fished bport and eagle mt semi regular for the last 4 years and never had a problem until recently. The growing popularity of the sport has led to more people who either don't know the laws or don't care and have been dumping fish. Last time I was on eagle mt a trwd officer mentioned it too is and said they let us slide bc there had been no complaints for years, but with free fish dumping they could easily enforce their bs sanctions. Btw I've talked to the ol boy about airboats on bport also and he wasn't having it. Wish we could get it changed as that lake is mostly uninhabited shoreline by large

Well at least I've learned something on this thread. I didn't know there were directors and officers. Guess that's been my problem. ( maybe a lot of folks problem). I just don't know/understand the way the organization is set up. Just knowing that and who or where to get that info and such might help. I never knew there was a nomination/vote for directors til after the fact. Not blaming anyone, just saying that could have been some other people's heartburn too.

I'd like to help just like everybody else that's commented here. Not sure what I could do but, I'm willing to try. It seems once we all know what we're talking about, then we can make a plan to either fix it or scrap it. Comments on this thread all say the same thing about wanting a strong TBA. Lets not let personalities or perceptions about others stop us before we even get an understanding of the problem. People have offered to step up. That's a good start I think.

Has anyone read this stuff

I do agree with one sanctioned State Tournament. And at this tournament should be a business meeting with all BOD's required to be there. The TBA needs to focus on educating the public who don't bowfish along with educating new people interested in learning the sport. TBA sponsored clinics and camps for the kids, OUR FUTURE OF BOWFISHING, along with teaching all you Novice bowfisher's how to despose of your fish. This can be a focus for the TBA in conjuction with the Corp of Engineers and TPWD. Just a few things that a good TBA should be addressing in meetings and email correspondence with each other.

No it's not pressing buttons it's flat out lies, if you tried contacted me I would respond to you. Like I said I've personally never had a problem with you. Yeah there is something wrong with only one person getting nominated but that's how it happened. The system needs a upgrade we get it.now that you have all been vocal about it lets move past the "TBA sucks" and start getting it into shape. Tim you say you don't like our formats, we had a just big 20 we had big twenty/numbers split and vice versa tried lots of different things to get new ppl and it worked well. Garret that tournament was 2 years ago and I didn't host or schedule it. As far as the TBA focusing on tournaments that's not really the case, but nobody else will host a tournament in my area so I do, as far as convenience of water bodies we have them on our local lakes, lewisville, ray Roberts, texoma, Whitney ect ect...not sure how that's more convenient for some more then other when they are all in our region. As far as membership management software I would have to say no, the list was emailed to me roughly 4-5 months ago in a E docket, nothing fancy. Like I said I'm new to this position but I'm all ears about making it better and with constructive criticism we can all accomplish that but if its non stop *****ing y'all can go shove rocks for all I care.
JJ, I am so turned on when you get all pissed off at someone. Are we still on for our dinner date?

Man it took a long time to try to read through this thread! :) ....saw my name come up and I'm sorry but I resigned as director and from the board of the TBA on 1/1/13. I do not have the time and will no longer make the time to update the website. I asked people for over 6 months for volunteers to take it over or create your own site and no one stepped up. I went through a lot of this same type of thing in my region where no one even returned messages and there was no help to be found. Same thing for running tournaments...no one wanted to help but people still complained. I used to get a kick out of hosting tournaments because so many people enjoyed them and always thanked you for running them and I could look past the bad apples. But after doing it a while I guess I dwelled too much on the losers who complained too much instead of the other good guys. The last straw was when people accused the winning team of cheating at one of my last tournaments but they waited until everyone left and never said a word to me or anyone else while we were all there counting fish and passing out awards. They passed it on as rumors and then I get a call the next day! Even better I know the winning team to be upstanding guys who would never consider cheating! It was just heartbreaking. Sorry to rant but after years of taking this kind of unwarranted abuse (or letting it get to me) it SERIOUSLY burned me out on tournaments and bowfishing in general. ...Sorry I do not want to come across as defensive or complaining but I am sure that is how it will be perceived and for that I apologize.

I will be happy to give someone the current login and pw for the TBA site if someone wants to take it over right now. Jace you might already have it, I am not sure. The site was taken over from Tim years ago and I just ran with what was there because I am not a graphic designer and certainly didnt have time to just redo the entire site. There is ton of history of tournaments, winners, and numbers that I think are important to preserve but who am I to decide now? Originally I took the position when Tim asked and we tried to do the best job we could. One of the guys was a lawyer and created all the bylaws and other stuff for the corporation to protect the board and members from lawsuit. I vaguely remember something about how someone could get hurt and sue and it could come back on the individual members. If you are a lawyer then you would know more about this than I. At any rate I am not saying everything we did was perfect but it did protect from lawsuits. Please remember these are non-paying jobs that we freely gave lots of time to. I know at one point when I was doing memberships and updating the website that I was putting in something like 4-5 hours per week. While that doesnt seem like much to some people, it is to me with a family I wanted to spend time with. When I stepped down the TBA was in good standing financially with money in the bank. We had LOTS of really great ideas from the members and the board its just that no one had the free time to implement the ideas. I will try to recall some of them and post them up.

Guys this is not supposed to be a negative email and I dont want to complain. I do not know how Tim did it all those years but I say thank you again to him! I do hope that yall can keep the TBA going because it is certainly worth it!
Thanks.
Robert

im apart of the texas society of surveyors. we nominate officers and send out a voting ballot with a deadline.i think this would be good for the tba.
I like this! Even an e-ballot would be fine with me. Gets rid of the "can't attend the meeting" this way

Robert, I'm copying a lot of the history, and information from the old website over to the new website. I'm just about done with it actually. Send me a pm when you get a chance so I can figure out what I need to do to upload my site to the tba's url. thanks.

Thanks for your service Robert! Know what you mean about getting burnt out hosting tournaments.

we may have to do e-ballot. I know my dues for that organization are $300+ a year and they probably have more help than we have.
E ballot would also save money on postage and be much easier to talley and keep a record of the votes in case anyone wanted to challenge something
