its kinda rough running when the lever that goes from choke to run is all the way to run but when i move it slightly toward choke it smooths out
Has the generator been sitting for a while? Sounds like you have trash in your carb, a vaccum leak, or something out of adjustment. I wouldn't ditch your generator just yet. If you get your generator running properly, you shouldn't have any problem running (6) 400's. There are plenty of people running Champion generators with no flickering issues. Myself included.

yea, just unscrew the bolt in the bottom of the bowl, take the bowl off and see if you have any trash or varnish in there, if you got alot of residue and film in the bowl and crud stuck to your float, chances are you will need to clean the entire carb. for starters, just try taking the bowl off and spraying what you can down with carb cleaner, a new airfilter and spark plug may be on the menu as well... Ethanol gas is a mother f'er, espically if you dont use any kind of fuel treatment... Seafom and Marine grade sta-bil work wonders, but even so, if you let an engine sit for a long time, you will run into these troubles...

I've been using a Honda eu3000i with 6 lights. It's the max it will take. If you're going all out with it, I would recommend getting a bigger generator than that.

Six of what sized light?

But you can not beat a Honda or a Yamaha. Either one will dang near last you a life time!
