Went out with my uncle last night, he has been bowfishing for over 20 years. Has had this bow for 15 and shot tied to the back with a roller rest. He is shooting 65# with an original AMS retriever.

He went to shoot at a fish on my side and BAM! Sounded like his bow blew up. He went down to his knees holding his face.

It looks like the string tied itself into a clean tight knot right at the string nock.

It went deep and that whole skin flap opens wide and deep

I know this is going to open a can of worms, but had to post after last nights incident

The bottom gash and there is another a little higher and a crape between the two where we think the nock broke and hit as did the end of the arrow

That sucks man, I tie to the back but would only do it with 200lb fast flite. It'll break every time. Im guessing he was using dacron? That stuff stretches like a rubber band!

Glad he's ok...
Original AMS line from the retriever.

It knotted up about 4" behind the nock

Ahh the tying to the back thing is aliver again!
I will say this, with a spinner I will and do advise tying to the back, but always being careful about your slack line and making sure to reel it all up before shooting.
With a retriever or hand wrap reel I will always advise always using a slide no matter what line you are shooting.
Now all the snapback incidents I have seen or heard of have always been with a retriever style reel or a hand wrap reel. I have never seen, heard, nor seen any evidence of a traditional snap back with the line tied to the bowstring with anyone shooting a spincast type reel. This has been discussed and brought up before. Line caught on the handle, rest, etc. yes but not tied to the bowstring. It is something different with the 2 types of reels that causes the line to tie to the bowstring and it just does not happen with a spincast reel and if the line does get caught on something it will normally break anyway.
I never saw your reply Mark, but thanks for your input! :tu:
