I've not got the brackets made yet but just gonna use simple L brackets to mount them. It's going to be pretty easy to make it all work. The sockets I got off of ebay from Hong Kong or some chit like that lol. They're on buy it now or best offer.I offered them $3.33 per pair shipped and they accepted twice so those aren't too bad expensive.I done some bulb comparison shopping and I like how the cheaper ($9.95 + shipping) Odyssea bulbs are made. They look to me like they can handle a beating a whole lot better than the rest I've seen.I got a 15,000k Odyssea bulb lit up in that picture and those have a slight blue tint.I bought some 10,000k Odyssea bulbs right after that and they are made the same only perfectly white.

whats the overall price tag on that set up gills?
About $115 per light if you alrady have the fixtures. If you have to buy fixtures I would get econolight 300w fixtures for $9.40 each.I've ran their halogen fixtures for several years and they are pretty tough.I had to buy a couple more from them the other day for this project and their shipping prices aint too bad either.

Where do you find the ballasts that your talking about?
Ebay Hobbylighting is the seller.I bought one last Sunday from them for $100 but it looks like they went up to $112.45 since then.If you buy from them get on their asses and tell them to pack it so it don't arrive with a crushed bulb.A "free" bulb comes with them but don't get to excited about getting a bulb because 3 out of the last four I got didn't work and one was crushed.

I kind of put my little light project on the back burner for a bit but started tinkering with some more the other day.I ordered some aluminum for my light rail, so I'm hoping to have them all hooked up and going by the end of next week if everything goes good. Here's what we did.Pulled the reflectors out of my econolight fixtures and used a burr bit to cut out the old socket mounts.Doing that made a nice flat bed for the new sockets to lay.Cut some 1 1/4" x 3/16" pieces and tapped them for the sockets to mount and then bolted them do the fixtures.Still needs a little prettying up yet but they're going to be pretty sharp by the time we get finished.:tu:

o.k i got really excited when I read this at first put Im confused on one thing. if it cost around 115 for each light, Why wouldn't you just buy a brand new light for the same price? is the goal just getting the stronger lights in the smaller fixtures?

Not necessarily.I personally don't care for big bulky fixtures that get in the way of shooting.Big wattage lights equals big fixtures.I also don't want a whole lot of weight on the deck either because it makes the boat fish nose heavy.Halo fixtures are real lightweight and my ballasts are going to be mounted towards the back of the boat and remote wired.Since I can't go out an buy the kind of lights I want already made up I decided to build my own.:tu:

sweet! I missed this thread somehow....keep us posted on how this turns out TTG
Will do.I drive my boat like a bulldozer so if anybody can screw up a light I can.I'll post up the good, the bad and the ugly after I do some testing because if it goes over like a fart in a space suit I wouldn't want anybody wasting their money on the account of one of my hair brained ideas.:tu:

Yeah I've been running some since last fall. They're really bright and do well but get lowest K bulbs that you can find like 10K and below because the blue ones aint worth a chit on higher wattage because they reflect too much light back into your face.
when you say k you mean the watts or what
