True they do require some more setup time and getting the height correct on your O/B and to get the most out of it you will need a hydraulic jack plate, but I love being able to run wide open over 1ft of water and only have about 8in of O/B sticking under the boat, but with float pods you get all your flotation back and some and for the shallow water areas I run in, would not have it any other way. I can even get my boat to plane out in 2ft of water or less, just cut the steering wheel to the side, gun it and straighten it out when it get's up on plane.

There is no dig with the tunnel, especially with float pods to support the weight of the fan and besides when you are standing on the front of the boat, the weight transfer lifts the rear of the boat some anyway! If your boat is balanced properly it should sit fairly level in the water when you are fishing up front with your normal load.

So would you or could you run thru a stump field with your motor trimmed up in the tunnel (lower unit above btm of boat)? I know your steering would be slightly affected.

Yep and did, followed a airboat thru a 1-2ft deep stump field dodging stumps the whole way running about 40, not sure how many I hit but did not hit any with the outboard, but it was a scary ride, definitely a "oh S..t handle grabber moment for sure!

Good to know Mark, still undecided on airboat or fanboat. I live too close to Lake Palestine not to fish it most of the time, so I contend with stumps a lot. Probably the thing I hate the most about moving from the coast, stumps. Everywhere I go I got tot creap around stumps. I hate stumps.

Yep stumps suck for sure, if it's that bad then an airboat maybe your best options but for an outboard in situations like that the tunnel maybe enough to save you some serious damage, but you still can hit the lower unit on a stump, you just won't hit it as bad, but more for really shallow areas so you can run the outboard higher and not hit bottom.
