thanks Bill. An American Turbine SD231AF is a 3 stage Axial flow pump. this means it builds higher pressure and lower RPMs. The 231 is a 9" pump yet its capable of moving more water than a 10" given its design. Im told I need a small block motor exceeding 400hp and it would be turning around 3700-4000 rpm and capable of moving 5000lbs 40mph.

All Berkley, Jacuzzi, Dominator, Legend, and the American Turnbine 309 & 312 are all mixed flow single stage pumps. Basically all the same principle design from the mid 60's with a few different variations of bowl sizes and impeller design. The biggest downfall to using these is increased required HP to go fast or to move a load increased RPMs and restricted intakes that get clogged easily. Although I can rebuild one of these older pumps for 500ish and they appear easy to maintain and fix the added RPMs(4-4750) and HP(450-700) usually require a big block(455,460,or 454).

By spending $15k on a axial flow pump like a American Turbine 231, Scott 812,852, or a Hamilton 212,213 it will allow for a lighter weight smaller motor using less fuel and turning less RPM.

I am trying to build the next generation bowfishing boat from scratch, one that doesn't care about weight, isn't loud, and can run shallower than a typical outboard powered boat and use less fuel. A boat that is much safer running in unfamiliar waters in day or night even though its going to be on a extra large scale. Im pulling out all the stops, im way out of my comfort zone researching motors and pumps but learning curves never scared me.
