Soo I found some well like 6 halogen lights around my house and was wondering how would I power these? Only way is a generator right?
Yep. U need a genny. And halogens work fine, they just pull a lot of juice. For 6 halogens with 225watt bulbs, you'd want a 2000 watt genny.

If you have no generator then your only choice is led and with water clarity of 6-7 ft you should be in good shape. The other alternative is to buy a genny to power your halos till you can upgrade them to hps.We fish junk chit...100 bucks in a 5000w genny and 150 bucks in 6 400hps parking lot lights. It can be done on the cheap...

Well I found an old genny that works from a buddy of mine for $100 in trade from what I do for a living so basically free to me. 3500w genny. Has anyone tried batteries with a converter to run 50-70w HPS lights? Right now I run 4 70w halogens off 2 batteries and get right around 5 hrs off them, slowly working on getting more lights .... I'm very familiar with HPS in higher watts but wondering if it can be done by battery for now til I travel to pick up genny?

If you've got the genny I would look at Halogen work lights. You can get em for like $10 a piece. Buy the 500w lights and then put in 300w bulbs. You won't really notice much difference in light and it will be a lot easier on the generator. 6 lights will give you pretty good coverage. I'd go with that or look on fleabay to find some cheap 50w led lights. You can find em 20-30 bucks. Those would probably be your cheapest bet. Both of those will be easy on your genny. If you want a little more light buy the 150w hps from econolight. they run about 50-60 per light but will give you a lot more light.

I ordered 2 150w HPS lights yesterday and have 2- 50w warm LED lights coming aswell... Plus the shop lights... I think I'm set until I can go all hps...

My next question is inverters? Do I need them on a regular Genny. Or am I good with what I got?

Did you order 12v or 120v LEDs?

I think you are asking about converters (AC to DC) not invertors (DC to AC)...if so, its sounds like the only thing you might have left that is DC is a troller possibly.

So to answer your question: no, you do not need a converter to power any of those lights you listed (HPS, halo, 120v LED) to run them off a genny.

I see how dirty some water is, but here I fish near crystal clear water so 4 27's work ok. I am just my self shootin, not a lot of people doin it that I know on lakes in Orlando. Temped to get 2 48's for the front, and move 2 27's to the side... But it sure looks like that will work...:D
