The housings that I gutted for parts were brand new GE housings. These ballasts will run a 400w hps at 4.1 amps and a 400w mh at 4.5 amps. That's tested with my amp clamp one each up in my house.
Does the ballast tag call for a 50 or 55 cap?

not sure...I just went out into the garage and I must have thrown them all away. I'll find out soon though.
Those caps didn't come with the lights did they?

Yeah these were the caps that were in the lights. They were unopened factory GE Housings.
Wild! That's the first time I've seen a light come from the factory with a cap jumped---nothing wrong with that just the first time I've seen a factory take that route.

It had a jumper with a plug on it that allowed you to plug it in two different ways. One way (which just broke the jumper circuit) was for 250w bulbs, the other was for the 400's. I won't be running any 250's but if I ever did all I would have to do is pull the jumper. I had to make my own for looks....I'm picky when it comes to my wiring.

I also crimped every spade terminal tighter than factory specs before I put them on and coated all spade contacts with dielectric grease. Didn't want to have to trace down any bad connections.
