Or..... less boats. Based on what I'm reading I think 250 boats is way to many. I'm thinking multiple regional tournaments to qualify for the Open.

With 250 boats luck plays a factor.
maybe even go with have to get 1st or 2nd in a BAA sanctioned tournament to be invited to the tourney... make it more interesting and also grow the BAA, because everybody would want their tournaments BAA Sanctioned....

we were just happy to be part of something bigger. I was impressed with the number of teams that took pride in how they presented themselves. big fish or not I was honored to get the yellow tape on my window and get up on stage for a photo op.

What is the "yellow tape"?
during weigh in, if you had a good weight, a good fish, or good story to tell the officials put a piece of yellow duct tape on your windshield so you could be bought around front to the main stage. the weighing in actually took place around back and out of the public eye.

Had a decent night up on Table Rock Wednesday night seeing commons in the back of coves and got a 16 pound gar which I was really happy about. Hit the James River and saw a 30+ pound buff and boated a 36 pound grassy. Must have went to the wrong spot on Bull because we didn't see anything there Thursday night. Went back to upper Table Rock on Friday and had about a 8-10# average for commons scouted out. we were going to boat 20 fish and then go back to the river looking for a kicker fish. Well, guarded the best cove we found for over to hours only to have it be empty at dark. watched a boat blow by all the other coves and basically run all the fish out we had scouted. Got worse from there, decided to just have fun and shoot at shad so we could "weigh" in 20 fish. Oh well.

They aren't going to move this tournament anywhere or lower the number of boats that they let in. Wouldn't make financial sense to do so for BPS. If anything, they could move the date closer to when the fish spawn to increase the weights.

don't really think the time of year would have made a difference. Friday before the rain came I had a bunch of big fish scouted. the change in weather dropped them down. otherwise I would have easily had 400.

The time of year was fine, the amount of water for the amount of boats was good. The the slow night of fishing was just poor luck. The weather and the Corp dropping the water levels the night of the shoot messed up most of our plans. I hope they add more lakes and let in more teams. It is a great thing for the sport.I've gone the last 2 years and will every year . If they limit the # of teams they should give returning teams first dibs to enter.

sounds like they need to have a rule no scouting
Hell no that was the only reason we made the trip... not going to drive 1800 miles and a few hundred more from lake to lake not be able to shoot fish... we had a blast and shot a pile of fish on the tournament night... to bad they were all 5lbs...:D that's one of the rules I hate about our shoots out west... I get not shooting the night before but these week to two week blocks of red zones is dumb... but I do think its funny how all the locals got all up in arms about the out of town"ers being on the water a week early shooting big fish and posting pics on FB... I'm keeping all my pic on my phone to show my friends and family... didn't want to ruffle any feathers...

The locals were up in arms? That usually means they are welcoming and happy that you were there. But by seeing the ... after FB made it seem they were actually quite mad and not up in arms?

define scouting for me. maybe I misinterpret the definition. I shot 1 fish Tuesday, one fish Wednesday, and when my team came in on Thursday they shot 4 total. we didn't hit the water Friday.

THERE IS NO REASON TO SHOOT FISH ON TOURNAMENT WATERS BEFORE A SHOOT. if you waby to shoot fish drive to other waters. there are a lot of opportunities to bowfish no reason to ruin tournament waters before a shoot no matter where your from.

There's an interesting question. Does anyone see a lack of fish if you hit the same hole two or three nights in a row?

The biggest reason I see to not allow shooting the night before a tournament is to lessen the chances of cheating. I've never seen a spot that would clear out for days after shooting it once. In big fish tourneys it makes sense to leave the big ones alone as there are fewer big fish than small fish, but shooting their little friends shouldn't make a difference. When a spot is producing we tend to shoot it until the fish move out due to weather or water level change. No matter how hard we harass them there always seems to be fish there the next night.
